Default Throttle body coolant bypass

I've seen more frequent adds for bypassing these coolant lines to keep the air more cool and dense at the throttle body.Anybody actually felt any noticable improvement?

Nope. There is an optimum air temp for proper fuel vaproization. that's the purpose of the coolant loop at teh throttle body. If the charge is too cld, teh fuel will be poorly vaporized, youi will not make full power, you will waste fuel, and your HC emissions will be increased.

yeah, after driving, you can rest your hand on top of the plenum without it turning you into burrito. Other than that, piece of mind.

This is one mod that has ZERO practical benefit. There are several threads already on the pros and cons - search if you want the details. The bottom line is there are no pros. Engines parts get warm and they get hot, that's how they were designed. You could disconnect it and race your buddy with the STi that normally beats you by a car length, and guess what, he'd STILL beat you by a car length. And unless there is some performance criteria that says the intake manifold must be at ambient temperature, that is a moot point.

here's a pro...........it makes removing the manifold that much easier!

if you've taken your manifold on and off as much as I have, you'd appreciate not having those coolant lines running to the TB.

I missed that one. Less clutter and don't have to worry about getting air in the system or losing coolant. I stand corrected, there is at least one pro, if you are moving things around a lot on the intake side.

OK well i did this mod when i did my MD spacer..omong other mods(no turbo/SC) i pull on my friends STI with his mods.(3rd gear pulls in my G).granted not by a craplaod. AND im saying its this mod..cuz it isnt..but in warm weather like here in hawaii, bypassing your throttle coolant isnt a bad idea. and yes fuel vaporizes better at a certain temp, but its not in your throttle body. this mod just barely helps keep the intake temp cooler..thats about it..nothing rly gained tho at all...

keeping the intake manifold cooler has no benefits, eh? wonder why drag racers ice that plenum down between runs...

This is just one mod that can contribute to preventing heat soak. I haven't seen any quantitative data that supports this on the VQ platform but it is closed-minded to think it doesn't potentially have an impact.

I liked the comment about fuel vaporization. I wonder which version of the VQ engine vaporizes fuel in the upper plenum... I wonder which version of any engine makes less power with colder, denser air

This mod does nothing to our cars. If kepping the throttle body/ intake plenum a couple degrees cooler made a big difference the kinetix plenum should have huge gains over a crawford or spacer. The kinetix plenum comes with a bypass and when i beat on my car the plenum still doesn't even come close to being as hot as an oem plenum.

Has anyone done this on an HR? I took my throttle bodies off to clean them, then pondered on the question then searched knowing no one has?

Mine has been bypassed for 2 years. I see no reason to warm the TB in Phoenix.

thanks for the longevity insight...doubt I would need it in Hawaii, or anywhere else seeing the car isn't a DD anymore!
