I have a 2003 350z track and she's about to be paid off so I want to get her into a somewhat local shop (near Sacramento) to have the engine fully built. I will probably end up running a modified Greddy TT or Vortech SC kit because I need to be able to pass the visual smog inspection, so I need to have those 50 state legal part #s staring at the smog guy.

Anyone know of good shops in northern Cali that could handle the engine build, turbo/sc install, and tuning?? I'm very particular about my car so I'm looking for someone who has lots of experience with this particular car/engine and does clean work, no cutting corners or sloppy stuff.

Also, if you have any recommendations for local transmission shops that would be much appreciated as well. My ideal situation would be to drop the car off at a shop and get as much of the project done under one roof as possible. I prefer the people working on my car actually know the car and build a history with it so there is no guesswork.

Morgans machine and marine in walnut creek. they build v12 Ferrari motors and race motors. very expensive tho. RPM machine shop in martinez is good for machine work they are back logged for days tho last time i checked

Thanks for the tip on Morgans, they have really good reviews across the board. I used to cheap out on stuff, but I've learned that you get what you pay for when it comes to engine/transmission work.

You'd be a fool to not go with Dynosty.

I did, and I'm on the central coast. Definitely worth the shipping cost.

Don't go to GTM or anyone else. Most shops will over charge because they've never worked on a vq... which in my opinion should cause them to charge less.

Buying a whole new block paying for machining twice and shipping to and from Dynosty was still less than what Lesco (race shop here in town) wanted. Lesco for example has built a 2000+hp tb48 stroked motor with O rings, regularly builds race motors, and Ferrari motors.

Go the proven route. Dynosty has a fantastic track record, and they're fully competant. Eddie (the machinist) used to build (I think, but I could be wrong) sprint cup motors... But everyone at Dynosty are 350z/g35 specialists. Not to forget, they currently hold the record for quickest 6 speed z33.

Give them a call, tell them you heard about them on the forums. Tell them your goals for the car and they will help you pick the right parts (http://www.dynosty.com)


Installation should be just a matter of finding a shop with a good rep. Just make sure you get at least your block done correctly. A lot of shops run incorrect clearances in the big/small end of the rod, bad bearing clearances, bad ring gaps, and you don't find out until premature failure.

Thanks man, I just watched their YouTube videos. I'm going to give them a call and probably what I will do is just ship my entire car to them and have them ship it back when finished.
