Default Rear Hatch Opening Fix

Here is a very simple fix for the rear hatch not opening and it costs just 4 cents....
1. remove the springs on the car you can just twist and pull it to remove them 1 on each side under the hatch.

2. Now that you have them off twist and pull till the top part seperates from the bottom once more

3. Now drop 2 pennies on each one as the picture shows. After the pennies are in you must now push the pieces together till it comes together and then replace the springs back in..

FOR PICTURES PLEASE REFER TO PAGE 2 AND POST # 40

Heh, did you see my post? They just released a TSB and the dealership can order longer bumps for you. Fix takes about 2 minutes once they have the parts.

Do a search and you'll find the TSB I bet, somebody else posted it before I did.

Yah that's why I did that...So you wont have to drive to the Stealership and sit there all day. Trust me Mannish the fix works and you should put up a sticky or in the DIY for me....

Default Dealership says what ?

Went to my dealer and they had no idea of whay I was talking about. They said the stock part cost $22.00.. WTF.

So I tried the 4 cent solution, and It worked great.

Thanks......

Wow, that' a very creative solution. I have my replacement parts on order at the dealership, but I am still going to try this trick.

By the way, for people that want it done at the dealership, do not let them ******** you. Bring a printout of the technical service bulletin. It can be found at http://www.infinitihelp.com/Ownershi.../NTB04-042.htm

Default Fantastic Tip!! Thanks

This fix really works great!! I have a wing which made the hatch really hard to release even though I removed the weight under the interior hatch cover. I had tried to put a couple of those small, round stick on furniture movers on the hatch opening where the springs hit in order to compress the springs more. This worked for a while, but then the furniture movers wouldn't stick. The 4 cent solution was quick, easy and cheap.

Thanks again for sharing this.

FINALLY!!!! My hatch works after getting my Stillen Type 1 wing installed!!!

Skar 718 - thanks for the post, I've been so focused on removing the weight in the hatch that I totally overlooked these lil springs. I know that there are a lot of people out there that will appreciate your 4 pennies/4 minutes fix.

Dude...great idea. I have been complaining about this to my service advisor for over a year. They have used cleaners and silicon sprays on the lock mechanisms numerous times before replacing the hatch struts....to no avail. That was it...4 frickin cents. <G>

Thanks again!

Nice fix Skar. I may give that a try if/when mine stops working. I hot glued two of those felt furniture pads to the bumps on mine when you needed two hands to open mine up after the NISMO wing. Works great. Very cheap.

Looks like I have developed this "Hatch problem". Might someone have the pictures from the original post? All I see are red X's.

I'm sure it's not too hard though... I just need to find 4 pennies now.
