chipped Audi TT 225 vs. 350Z
last night I hung out with a friend of mine who is in an Audi club. Mostly S4's and TT's. These guys are pretty harsh on japanese metal but were very respectable towards my Z.
On the way home my friend, who drives a 2002 TT 225 which has been chipped and intaked to about 265hp, found ourselves an open stretch on the edge of town for a race.
I turned off TCS and while holding brakes, brought the revs up to about 2,000. (remember.... I'm an auto)
The light turned green and we were off. I instantly had a good jump on him. By the time we hit 90mph I was a good 3 car lengths ahead.
We both stopped accelerating at around 90. Then after a few seconds holding 90 we both punched it to see who would out-accelerate at speed. no question here..... the Z pulled away without hesitation due to it's awesome torque.
He's an Audi freak and thinks very highly of them.... but says he's VERY impressed with the power of the Z. Even a chipped and intaked TT can't hold a Z.

sorry for you buddy but thers no way an intake and chip will give him 40 hp
unless, that chip raises boost... and if so i'd still wonder, because i think it wouldnt be getting enough fuel w/out a fuel pressure regulator, injectors, new pump.. ya know something (anything?)

well... he works for an Audi delaership out here in Scottsdale, AZ. He's a finance mgr. and knows his Audi's.
His chip and intake did give him 40 hp. I don't know the technicalities on the install but he did have it dyno'd and acording to that is was about 40 hp.
I'll have to ask him what all he did to get those numbers.

being a (past) audi fanatic myself, i can verify that all aftermarket chips increase the boost on the turbo's significantly and 40hp bump is normal (although i don't think he's running 265 - see sidenote)
the tt's are fast, but i think the z is very competent in running against them (especially a manual). they're both great cars. the 225 tt is significantly more expensive than the z in canada.

sidenote: i find that many people that have mods "add" their horsepower. for instance, car is 225hp, chip is 40hp, exhaust is 10hp, and intake is 5hp for a totoal of 275hp. that really isn't how things work, it's a system, and all the parts are dependent on the others. a tt with those mods will run over 250hp, is my estimate. however, he will gain A LOT more torque. my a4 runs near 170lb-ft stock torque but the chip puts torque into the 245lb-ft range at peak (but it's VERY peaky).
