Default Gas! Best Rpm to Gas Ratio= Good Mpgr

Well i was talking to one of my friend that owns a rx-8. He said, he read and heard that the best rpm to shift at is at 4000rpm. So the question is now what is your opion on whats the best rpm to shift at and get the most gas milage out of our cars.

Ill start first by saying 1,500 and when around 40 to 50 keep it in 5th gear to make the conditions of high way travel.( 2,000 to 2,500rpm)

by the way typo on the mpg.

Accelerate slowly in each gear 'till 2000RPM and shift. You won't be bogging at all, so its fine for the car. By 40 you'll be in 6th @ 1400 RPMs (the manual itself says 40mph in 6th is ok). *Key* is gentle acceleration...results = 26-29mpg in city, which is attainable.
Nissan advertises ~ 20mpg in city. It's a no brainer that one can squeeze out a mere 6 or so *miles* per gallon with gentle acceleration, shifting at lower RPM.

It's how you drive the car. Check this episode of top gear out.

PRIUS vs M3 which gets better gas mileage?

it's impossible to get that mileage in an actually city.

Of course living in congested areas like LA will get you nowhere near 25+mpg in city. In my area, stop lights are every 1/2 to every mile.
Here's a post I made a year or so ago: There are also many other members averaging 25+mpg in the city and 30+ freeway.
https://my350z.com/forum/350z/188205...ank-gas-4.html
This ride is as economical one could get. Gives you performance at decent fuel economy. It can be as good as a Honda Civic, given you drive it right. I Average 27-29mpg in the city; usually 470mi/16.7 gallons. Longest I've driven on the freeway after filling up was ~ 60 miles, averaging around 37mpg @ 60mph. Now I'm a bit above the 1/2 mark on the fuel guage and I've travled 210miles. Guage is reading 27.8; was 28.4 today but I was in the mood for some "spirited" driving :-D

I tend to shift between 2-2.5K RPMS when taking it easy. I stay in MD where it takes me 1HR+ to go 30 !&@*!ing miles. I get 21.6 MPG in the city and 27.0 on the highway at 80 with AC running.

Of course, gas prices are nuts. I pay 3.89 here. When I bought it, I was paying around 3.00. I love the car and the extra 20 or so dollars a month doesn't phase me. If you're worried about gas, maybe it's time for a Yaris!
