30 MPG in a 350Z?????

Remember that the mpg gauge is giving you the average mpg since you last reset the gauge, so unless you reset it when you filled up you are not seeing your overall mpg for the tank.
Ignore all this "miles per tank" nonsense, miles per tank means nothing unless you put exactly the same amount of fuel in every fill-up. Even if you drive until the engine stalls for lack of fuel you have not used the full 20 gallons in the tank, there is always some fuel left that is in a position that can't be picked up by the fuel pump.
To properly figure mpg follow these easy steps:
1. Fill your tank until the pump automatically shuts off, do not try to "top off" after the pump shuts off. Reset your trip meter.
2. Drive until you choose to fill the tank again
3. Fill your tank until the pump automatically shuts off, do not try to "top off" after the pump shuts off.
4. Note how many many miles you drove since the last fill up and divide that by how many gallons it took to fill your tank. For instance, if you drove 300 miles and it took 15 gallons to fill your tank, 300 miles/15 gallons=20mpg.
If you drive on the interstate with the cruise control set at 65-70mph for the entire tank of gas, 30mpg might be possible. Average fuel economy with mixed driving is probably between 17-22mpg for most folks. Try resetting your mpg gauge when you fill up and follow the steps above to obtain your gas mileage and I think you'll find the gauge to be pretty accurate.

I can get 32-33 on highway. Of course I reset it while on the highway to get the best score (since i consider it a game). Playing with it I'll get low to mid 20's. Im not sure about actual though with fill up method. Just thought I'd add this useless info for you all anyways.

i average around 375-390 miles per tank before the light comes on. my average says 23.6 but i havnt reset it for about a month. but i just filled up last night and by my calculations i got about 24.4 on the last tank. as for 480 miles on a tank, i can believe that. ive never put 20 gallons or anywhere near that in my car and i drove it 20 miles after the dte indicator started blinking hash marks at me. i put 18.006 gallons in it after that. i drive somewhat conservatuvely; about 70 on the highway and i shift around 2750 rpms. i drive about 85% highway.

i doubt my ecu and piggy back is messing up or my gauges are wrong. i went FI this summer and drove from DC to Arkansas i got 38 mpg! I wish i would've taken a picture because more then likely u guys would not believe me. i was cruisin around 73mph on cruise control when i could but had to slow down to 60 at times. i dont think thats bad for an automatic...

I've never really relied on the car mpg meter for any vehicle. I use to obsessively watch these readings on my old Dodge, Audi and Subaru and none of them seem accurate. I think the best way to calculate your fuel economy is at the pump.
I dont have the picture with me now but on my old Audi I was able to hit like 999 mpg on the meter. It was when I lived in Colorado and was driving home from sking on I-70. There is a section as you approach Denver that is steep downhill for several miles. Keep it in neutral and the meter goes off the charts!
