About to purchase 2005 35th Anniversary Edition
I am about to purchase a 2005 35th Anniversary Edition Z. It only has 15k miles on it (I know its suspiciously low miles) I think I'm getting a great deal on the car, and I'm buying an extended warranty for peace of mind. I am not familiar with these cars at all, I did some research and I saw the tire feathering is an issue on these cars. I did notice the front tires looked like brand new Good year Eagles and the rear are Bridgestones and not as new. Is this issue still being covered by Nissan? What else should I look for on this car? The warranty I am looking to purchase is a Toyota care Platinum warranty. Is there any you guys recommend over this one? It covers just about everything besides wear items (clutch, water pump, oxygen sensor etc not covered) Its 4 years and 48k miles for $1650 with no deductible and rental car included. Any other advice you guys have I would greatly appreciate. I am coming from a Camry Hybrid so this car is a different animal lol.

Manual with rev up engine loves to consume oil. Go through my garage and look at the engine . Specifically the cam covers and notice the vvt on exhaust and intake aka the bulge on the front of the engine. If you have revup do your research. Buy the warranty if it covers engine and tranny . Electrical issues with window motors. Good luck

thanks for the head up, do ya recommend full synthetic due to the oil burning? I am wondering if there's any high cost maintenance I can expect to do in the near future due to the age not the mileage. I see it has a chain so I don't need to worry about the timing belt/water pump at least. any cheap mods for good hp besides an intake?

I thought mine was low, 15K is really low. I wished you had pictures for it, so I can see if it is really a 2005 Anniversary model, or a regular model. I know some dealerships mistakenly, or knowingly tag them (look for the VIN) and make sure you have Brembo brakes as well as 2006+ wheels. I think some of them came with 35th carpet and some did not.

I do have pictures, I'll post the link below. I checked the redline and it is at 7000rpm and it has the two tone seats and tire pressure monitoring system, navigation system, the brembo brakes, the 18 inch wheels etc. The dealer still has it on there website but I am picking it up tonight, can't wait The dealer accidentally put the 61,720 miles on there but the actual miles is the 15k (the sales person looked at the trip meter and thought 6172.0 was 61720 lol. The car fax doesn't list it as a 35th anniversary edition but the dealer says it is and the specs from car and driver I listed above seem to agree with that

Kinda tired of people trashing on the rev-ups. I have an '06 and it eats almost no oil in between changes (3k-3500) My neighbor has a black '05 35th as well and he has 0 issues. (6mt with rev-up)

Nissan hates it too when people bash on rev up yet thousands of owners have had engine replacements from nissan. The issue is a real issue and is important for a prospective owner who has no knowledge of problems. Valve covers leaking is another issue that is platform wide from 350z-g35. That has nothing to do with rev ups, compression rods are similar issue along with window motors and tire feather. Are you going to live in a distorted reality and act like if you do not have that issue it does not exist.

Mine isn't the only one in the PNW that hasn't had any oil problems -- a friend has a 2006 Enthusiast 6MT with a RevUp and his also has not had any oil problems. We both have used ours for autocross with no problems.

Hi werdnash2002,
I bought my 35th new. Your mileage does appear low considering that neither your front, nor rear tires match in manufacturer. The sizes should be 225's in front/245's rear, so they can't be rotated. As far as I know all 35th's came with Potenza tires. Unless the previous owner used the car as a drifter, it would make no sense that the tires would have been replaced so soon, especially the fronts.
Nissan replaced my engine at 25,000 miles. They did have problems with some of them. I stopped using synthetic oil after I got the new motor.
One thing that is really important is to watch the oil pressure gauge. It should not drop below 15 lbs when idling. It would be wise to keep a couple of quarts in the car. My oil pressure, when I start it, and go down the road at around 35 mph in second gear will hit over 100 lbs. I believe that is a bit high for most any car. At higher rpms, the 35th can pump out oil, even though it isn't burning. It is good to watch your shift changes (I assume that yours is a 6MT). Max at 20mph in first, 40mph in second, etc, trying to keep the revs below 4000 rpm. During normal driving, I wouldn't drive too far at a steady pace higher than 3500 rpm in any gear.
The 35th is noted for it's exhaust sound. There is a temptation to roll down the windows, and listen as you drive. So, I personally watch my oil like I love the car.

^ This. I bought a 2005 35th Anniversary Z and I LOVE it. Bought it when it had around 31k miles, and now it has 38k. I had the engine replaced under warranty and since then it hasnt consumed any oil, but I always check my oil when I'm pumping gas just to be sure.

I've had my Z since '05. It's got 108k miles. No issues whatssoever. Only one was the nylon gear for the electric driver's seat wore out from moving the seat back and forth everytime I got in and out. No oil issues or electric issues. I use a combination of 2 quarts regular and 3 quarts semisynthetic. I've spent about $12,000 on mods, mostly cosmetic but I did put on a plenum spacer, CAI and dual cat back exhaust - no real power gains just sounds nice. Would need headers for more power.

Thanks for all the info everyone. On the tires I think the rears are stock and the dealer or last owner may have recently replaced the front's due to the feathering issue (even if that was 5 years ago it would have been recently in mileage). I actually like the body kit myself, I am usually not a fan of body kits at all but I think this one isn't tacky and has been installed properly so it doesn't look like it coudn't be a factory add on. I will definitley monitor the oil level close, I assume the free engine replacment is gone with a factory warranty? I was wondering if you guys think its worth keeping the warranty I purchased? I paid $1650 for it, zero decuctable, rental car and its about as good a warranty as you can get (not quite bumper to bumper though). It's 4 years 50k miles (I'll be covered to 65k). I know if I plan to sell the car within 4 years it will greatly help the resale but besides that I haven't read of many major expensive issues with this car (bessides the burning oil lol)

My 2003 Track Model has 20,460 miles on it. Just means not driven much. I really don't drive mine much, but to events, shows, etc. People shouldn't trash any Z of any model, they are great cars. Take care of the car and it will take care of you. Have it thoroughly checked out by a reputable source and if clean then enjoy it. Get the extended warranty for peace of mind, you can't lose. Make sure paperwork is air tight. Then enjoy it and have fun.
