You can definitely find a 350z for 8k if you look on craigslist. You'll need to spend 50-100$ to take it to a shop and get it up on a lift to get a good look at it. Especially if you know nothing about vehicles.

If I had $8k to spend on a car it would be neither a 350Z or S2K.
You obviously want a sporty car.
If you plan on keeping it stock or mostly stock I would get a clean 300ZX TT.
If you plan on modding the crap out of it, my vote would be a clean 240SX.
Just so you know, parts are expensive on a 350Z and even a S2K for repairs or upgrades, well at least quality ones. Don't buy a car you can barely afford that has high miles and is old. It is just a recipe for disaster. If something goes wrong do you have 2 grand to throw at it? Do you know how much it costs for a clutch and flywheel on this car? Not to mention the labor costs. That is something that can go at any point on a car, especially with the age and miles of what you can afford.

I have owned both, I had the S2K for about 4 years and just bought a 350Z, I would say they are similar however personally I like the 350 more. It has more torque and I actually find it more fun to drive. In the end you will have to drive both and decide. I do agree the S2K will cost more than the 350 so if money is an issue go for the Z.

Im sure you can find a nice clean 350z for your price range. Look at some 350z's posted for 2000 more than your spending budget and talk them down. Im sure you'll find one in no time

Op, why in the hell would you want a nice car in college? My Camry got egged, tires were slashed for no reason, some ****** took a hub cap off and used it as a Frisbee, some drunk girl threw up inside of it, I've seen other people's cars get pissed on, poured beer on, tailpipes stuck with tomatoes, dirty underwear put on it, drew ***** with markers on etc.
Save that money. If you can, don't spend it on anything right now. Because when you graduate you'll be glad you did. Having a nice car on campus is not a good move.
