With an $8,000 budget, stay away, I think.
When I was 15 I had around that, so I bought a $5,000 E36. The rest of the money was used to modify it, fix it, fuel it and insure it.
After about a year I had enough money to sell the E36 and buy an E46, so I did that at 16.
Now at 17, I sold the E46 and bought my 350Z.

Just providing some reasonable advice to him. If he really does want a car throughout College, he should leave room in his budget to actually run the car, not just purchase it.
Judging by the level of intelligence he displayed in his OP and his ingenious response to the "boneheads," I'm not sure my advice will go very far, however.
Guys, I've been on NASIOC for 3 years. You're going to have to do better than that.
