Default Vq35hr Rear main seal

Has anyone had to do the Rear main on the hr motor? I have an oil leak coming from the rear of the motor. I will be replacing my clutch and flywheel in the upcoming months and would like to tackle the Rear main while I am there. My z has 105000 miles on it and was wondering if this is a common issue on the Z? Is there a DIY out there?

I had mine replaced at 23k miles on my Nismo Z. My GTR tech replaced it anyhow since he pulled the transmission out for my new clutch/flywheel.

You basically undo your exhaust, w brace, driveshaft, and transmission. The rear main seal is right behind the flywheel. It is a circular, brown O ring shaped seal. I will get you a pic today.

I replaced mine when I installed my new clutch and flywheel. Pry out with a small flat blade screw driver and be very careful that you don't scratch the crankshaft*surface. I didn't have the right size seal driver so I used a hole saw on a 2x4 and used that to drive the seal on.

Here's a pic of when I took mine out. +1 on what Ian said about being careful prying it out.

You can buy (or maybe even borrow) some good inexpensive tools for this at the local auto parts stores.

thanks for pic!! but I remember doing a rear main seal on a g35 sedan a while back and to do it I had to remove the secondary oil pan to be able to install the seal correctly. As far as I knew, g35s and the 350z the same drivetrain.. I'm a little confused now lol
