Default My drift story and my new Z

Howdy.

I just purchased a 05 base model black on black 350Z manual. I plan to daily it and drift it. I started drifting 7 years ago and I've built several 240's along the way. I did daily drive and drift my first S13 so I am aware of the draw backs. My last drift build was my most extensive.

I bought it rust free like this,

I built it to this

I put this down at 11psi. I was going to go to 20psi but I had the wrong spring in my boost controller.

Then I drifted the **** out of it.

This past year I was drifting at No Star Bash and either I messed up or something broke and I hit a wall... Hard. Here is a sick action shot.

I was planning on fixing the car, but I decided its been a long enough road and it was time for something new. I parted it out and bought the Z. This is a car I've always wanted.

Now for my plans. I am ordering a stock VLSD and some blizzak tires for winter (I live in WI). By next summer I will have Stance coilovers and a OS Giken Super Lock 1.5-way LSD I will put in my other pumpkin. I want to get work equip rims, but while I save up I will probably start with XXR 968's with 20x9 up front and 20x11 in the rear. I want it to look like this.

The fallowing year I plan to get a Nardi wheel with Bride low max seats and a Cusco bolt in roll cage with door bars. I will be keeping my interior. I also am looking into getting an app radio 3 and installing it in the dash where the stock navi goes. In a few years I plan to swap in a LS1.

That's my story and I'm just saying hi.

Welcome. Just curious, why are you ordering a stock VLSD only to swap it out next season?

tatman7 - Hi fellow Wiscosinite. I'm down in Sheboygan. I love drifting at USAIR in Shawano, which is right near you. It's one of the best drift tracks in America. I will be drifting there again next summer. I enjoy track events too, but every time i do it I just want to slide the corners. I've done that a fair few times and I only end up pissing people off. So I just drift now.

Syner - I plan to swap my diff seasonally. In the fall, spring and summer I will drive with the OS Giken, and in winter I will use the VLSD. I would imagine the Giken would be too aggressive for snow and might be dangerous. The VLSD will actually help me drive around in snow so I don't get stuck pulling the one wheel wonder.

iideadeyeii - It was crazy. At first I tensed up and braced for impact, but in the end I loosened up trying not to break any bones. I was uninjured. I had so much adrenaline from the drifting and the crashing that when I got out I laughed. It took a while for me to calm down and then I just got angry.

Welcome Chintzelman, nice S13! I drift a Z as well. I strongly suggest getting some aftermarket tie rods and cutting the steering stops to add steering angle. That made a huge difference in drifting my car. There are a number of write ups on this topic. PM me if you feel like discussing other Z33-specific quirks.

That 240 made one hell of a turn around compared to the first pick. Sucks it got wrecked.

You'd probably be fine daily driving on the OS Giken in the snow. I've been driving with a Nismo diff and all seasons for the past two winters. Last one was coupled with 4.08 gears too.

RedScytheZ- Thanks

1973camarolt - Awesome. I probably will PM you. I'm trying to read and learn about any and all Z33 things both good and bad. More info is always welcome.

harman850t5 - Good to know. How do you like your new gearing? The Z was slower than I expected and I thought about going with a different gearing myself. I don't plan on doing any high speed runs so lowering my top speed isn't an issue. Was it a big difference when you did it?

Welcome. Nice to see a drift post that is actually meaningful. Most "drift" threads are usually created by 16 year olds that mommy and daddy bought them a Z and now they want to be DK on the streets.

Very nice S13! Sorry to see what happened, but hey, that is the risk of racing/drifting. Best of luck with the Z!

The gears were pretty fun. Car felt a lot snappier with them, but still having the 6600 red line hindered them a little. I've since went back to stock gears after adding nitrous.
