Leaving my 350z to sit :(
Sojust got my set date for bootcamp is February 3rd, which took my by surprise because I wasn't expecting to leave so soon because I have so much work to do to my 350z mainly either a new motor or engine overhaul. But I really wanted some opinions on if I should maybe do a engine overhaul on my engine has 142k miles on it or just put a new engine in or re-manufactured engine?

Two choices. I've been down this road before. You could sell it and buy a better one later, or wait until you get assigned a duty station then get it shipped to you as long as it's not overseas. They used to frown on non-running cars when I was there though, but it's been forever since I've been enlisted.
At the time I had a 71 Chevelle SS454. That sat the first two years I was in the Army. When I got home I drove it for a month and sold it.

A new engine is prohibitively expensive, making a remanufactured engine a more reasonable choice. You could rebuild the engine you have, but rebuilding lacks precision and the result is often unsatisfactory.
With this said… If your car has an older body run during the winter in a climate with freezing temperatures, you might want to consider the possibility of RUST. If there is any possibility of rust, buy a newer vehicle.

Figure out where you will be stationed first!! Is the motor tired, blown or you just want it fresh?

Sit on it till you PCS to your first duty station then have it shipped to you as most posts have a garage with lifts and tools at your disposal to use so you can do most all of the work yourself. And it'll give you something to clear your head with but while you are in basic you'll have plenty of time to think about what you want to do with it. Best of luck to you, just keep your mind in the right place and you'll do just fine.

Have fun! I went through basic 5 years ago this month... Don't sell the Z like these other guys stated if its going to roll you under. Once you get to your first duty station as long as it isn't over seas like mine was then you will be within walking distance of everything and you will have more than enough time to get whatever you want done with the car you desire.
Im also in the process of doing something similar with my Z. I have found a trailblazer SS engine 6.0 that I will be picking up this weekend and then searching for the transmission I want.
LS swap is a way to go but it takes time and $$ but a more dependable motor. If you want more info on what it will take $$ wise then check out the LS swap forums.
