This is by far not a new trend when a car becomes affordable to purchase second hand. I am all too familiar with this from my days on www.Z31.com. (For those of you who don't know, a Z31 is a 300zx that was built between 1984-1989) I have just learned to filter through all of the noise and help where I can. As for what people do to their cars, that is their own business. I honestly don't care what your car looks like. I do not have to drive it or look at it every day.

First day of summer and wouldn't you know it, lots of new threads on Zs not starting and overheating. Many of these requests have a common ending- HELP ME!

Other posts include hitting a curb, drivability problems and why, oh why can't YOU FIX MY CAR?!

But posts on how searching this site helped me to fix it myself? Not so much...

The folk coming up now never had to go to a library and use the Dewey decimal system to to find something pertinant in a reference book. It's just a changing world. Some would say millenials have no work ethic as well.

If we lower our expectations to reflect these changes, we won't be disappointed. It will be a less rewarding world when we expect less of our selves and others. 02

yup

They throw their hands up without trying. They plop down on their *** and scream for help.

Several have gotten mad at the forum when the forum was unable or unwilling to diagnose their problem.

Half of them post a run off paragraph with horrible details and no pics..

It's sad really. This forum is all but dead.

Just drive past a plasti dipped 350z... Wow what a POS. Doesn't help with the cheap eBay exhaust... Smh at that very moment I wanted to sell my Z.... And then I realized there's no other cars out there that can match it's performance with this kind of price range, lol

I agree with the OP 100% my Titan swap took over 4 years to get running properly.... It was a long, expensive, tedious process...it's not for the faint of heart.

where is there anything mentioned about a titan in the original post? how is this relevant to this thread?

As one of the older members of this forum, I try to contribute to the discussions in a constructive way. My background includes experience writing for various automotive publications, including time as the editor-in-chief for the now defunct Nissan Sport Magazine. Beyond that, my passion has been as a longtime Nissan racer who still drives his pre-order '03 track model and races (and wrenches) on SCCA T3 Z33. So I've learned a bit about the model and am generally happy to share what I know with some of the newer owners and members of My350Z.

But these past few weeks have me shaking my head more than just a few times at what's posted. The questions being asked seem to be from new drivers who know very little about cars in general, or about the Z33 in particular. Examples include asking about what's involved with making 500-600 hp from $5K in parts. Or about how hard it is to buy a car (yes, immediate gratification is not available when picking a Z), or mistaking specific parts like what a "Murano rear end" is doing on their Z. There could be plenty of other examples, but it continues a trend of declining expectations in the quality of discussions on My350Z.

For every post asking for relevant information in the maintenance section, there's another two asking for how to "fix" their cars. As though any of us could magically appear next to their engine bays and tell them what the solution is. Many times, it's as simple as telling them to use their cars onboard diagnostic programs to pinpoint the problem. Sometimes, they may have to bite the bullet and take their cars to a Nissan dealer to have a tech with the right tools diagnose a complicated issue, rather than throw parts at it. And then there are those who think the Z is as simple as putting different parts from different models (engines, harnesses, ECMs, etc.) on a stripped shell and expecting it to run, and run perfectly. Not nearly that easy, my friend.

As the Z33 continues to drop in resale price, this decline is inevitable. But I wish new members would only take the time to understand how different the Z33 is from the Hondas and Nissans they may have started with. It's another dimension in terms of electronic sophistication and design from the previous generation of cars. Or, if this is their first car, start with an education of automotive basics (so you know how certain parts work and what they look like) together with doing a thorough SEARCH before posting what could be a lame question. It'll probably save them from a certain amount of embarrassment and keep the rest of us from slapping our foreheads every day!

I think he was just referring to my original post and how many people assume Nissan engine swaps (like his VK56DE) are easy to accomplish. They're anything but...

My latest complaint is about the various 'parts wanted' posts on the board. I've responded to several of them and either: a) there's NO response, not even an acknowledgement of the offer; or b) they want bottom-dollar price, with shipping thrown in. Even though I have the exact part--in good condition--that is wanted, I've almost given up on these ads...

gotcha, yeah the parts wanted threads are ridiculous ... they want all this high dollar stuff but dont want to pay for it... like people just have it laying around, anything high dollar i had was on the car
