Is a transmission swap from an 04 to an 06 possible??
Hi, recently I ran into some gearbox problems in my manual 04 350z. The whole 5th/6th gear assembly is shot. Anyone with some reasonable research behind them would know that the 03-04 gearbox is know to had some bad synchos and shifting problems. I am planning on buying a low-mileage gearbox as a replacement, as this is more viable than repairing the damage in the old one. I have done some research about replacing the 04 trans with an 06 (CD009), but I haven't found anyone who can prove to me that it will work without any problems. Does anyone know if the 06 will fit perfectly to an 04 car, or has anyone done it before?
Thanks
Thanks

=============
Note: 2007+ CD009 on HR equipped cars do NOT bolt up to DE engines AS IS. It IS possible to use the '07+ transmission on DE with modification (swap) of the bell housing, gears, and slave cylinder assembly but the OP who posted about that swap on the forum said it wasn't worth it. Easier/cheaper (or about same cost) to purchase a brand new 009 (~$1800. USD) for DE from one of the vendors supporting this site.

But ya, you have to understand that in my day work, I'm paid for my recommendations regarding "system efficiency" in great but understandable detail. Alas, when it's time for MicTheZFanatic to make recs, I do it with details cuz it takes my "work" brain turbos some time to spool down and cool off.
Or better said, "I haven't had my first beer yet".

nissan designed the VQ to go to 200k at least. So if you take care of it and drive 15k a year you still have nearly 6 years.
If swapping to a cd009 be sure to get the shifter bracket with it.

I figure the 100's of threads with people who swapped to the 09 would be sufficient. Mine has been working well in my car since 07
