I am buying, or thought I was, a 2008 350Z GT. The registration says it's a 2008, but when I did the online VIN check it says it's a 2007. It was purchased from a Nissan dealer, used, 4 years ago by the guy I'm buying it from.
Anyone understand how that can happen?
I am not aware of any real differences in the 2 years, but I have read on this site about the clutch slave issues on the 2007. Was this issue resolved in the 2008 model year?
I appreciate any thoughts or advice.

Both the 2007's and 2008's (HR cars) had issues with the concentric slave cylinder. Some people have issues with them with as little as 30k miles on the car, lots of others go to 100k. Just the luck of the draw. Outside of that they're really reliable cars and Zspeed makes an awesome replacement slave cylinder to the OEM one.

As for the VIN issue, what was the 10th digit which indicates model year? And as nOsmoke indicates, the CSC issue was common to both the '07 and '08 models, so it won't make a difference there.

my first one went out at about 33k miles (6weeks after buying the car), i bitched at the dealership i bought it from, they helped me out with about half the cost. of course they replaced it with oem... fast forward a year and it went out again. replaced with the zspeed setup and never looked back

Now I mash on that bish daily and no issues. Clutch fluid gets dirty though, but I'm going to start draining the reservoir and hope it helps.

I've only put 2k miles in 5 months though.

Don't worry OP, I just bought an 08 Z a few months ago which they just registered last week for me.... logged into DMV and it's currently registered as an Altima...

do the turkey baster method after driving it a week or so... repeat until it stays clear. that is the bad thing about the zspeed setup, there are alot of connections on the slave so that fine clutch dust seeps in

Thought about that, but it's been insured since I bought it, and I'd have a hard time getting it changed, plus if anything were to happen I'd get screwed big time. I am getting it fixed on the registration already.

The 10th digit is a 7. I think I will buy the car anyway. I drove it and found it much nicer, tighter and faster than my 03. This may be due more to the 03 having 204,000 KMs and the 08 having 76,000 KMs than the difference in the cars.

On top of it being newer, it also has a better, stronger engine in it. Enjoy the car . I went from an 06 to an 08 with an STI inbetween the two.

How do I keep the fluid from just falling back out of the baster? Maybe it's not sealed all the way, or the diameter is big enough that the weight of the fluid keeps it from not falling out.

one of the ten things on the end of your hand..... haha. i taped mine around the bulb and the shaft (sounds dirty as hell)

if you want to swing by one day i will help ya. make sure you cover the paint, that stuff will mess it up

Yeah, I spilled on Sunday and was pissed, then I remembered how it f's up paint, so I was spraying simple green all down there to rinse it off and wiping away with a towel.

Finger is a good idea, that should work. I don't want to tape it up since how I clean and dry it out after use is by taking it apart.

It's printed on an info sticker in your drivers side door jamb.

It is definitely a GT and an HR! Has the proper wheels and brakes. Proper hood!
