Insurance for upgrades?
Has anyone here wrecked their Z, but haven't totaled it and used insurance for some upgrades on top of fixing their Z?
This is the damage to my Z.
I was thinking of upgrading suspension and maybe a few other things.
I'll be paying my detectable and obviously insurance paying whatever comes after that.
Is this a bad idea?

Yeah +1 to that.
If you just damaged all the suspension components, it wouldn't hurt throw in some performance parts. Assuming you're mechanically inclined, first start taking parts off and set aside all of the clearly damaged ones. Once you're down to the frame, it should be pretty clear if it's messed up. Then you can make the call on what to do

I actually work for a living, have morals, and an adult. I'm paying the $1000 deductible, and getting everything that is broken / bent / or misaligned fixed. But obviously I will need new suspension so instead of going OEM I was just wondering would it be a bad idea just to have the shop install upgraded suspension.

As previously stated, you can get a check cut directly from your insurance company to cover, what they believe is a reasonable, cost of repairs. If I have damage done to my car, i take it to one of their claims centers and have them examine it, I tell them that I want to take it to a shop of my choice, and I want to order the parts myself. They then cut me a check and I deposit it. Of course I do order parts myself and then afterwards I either install the parts myself or have the guys at JEI install the parts.
I am not sure how my insurance gets the prices they do for OEM parts, but majority of the time the price they give me for OEM parts are way higher then aftermarket parts.
So, yes. If I have used my insurance to replace OEM parts with aftermarket, to clarify tho, all the repairs were due to no fault of my own and only from what some jack*ss doesn't know how to drive slams into my ride in a parking lot.

Yeah, definitely learned the lesson but must say it was a ton of fun. It's just money and I'm glad I physically wasn't hurt. Definitely hurt seeing damage done to the Z though.
@350z82 yeah, my insurance company is letting me take the the Z to a shop of my choice which is a drifting team shop in the area here that is pretty reputable and they told me to have them fax an invoice to them and they'll cover it. It's under $1000 I'll pay it with no claim, but if it's over $1000 then it'll be a claim and I pay the deductible and they have the rest.

Your deductible is 1000?? Damn that's high. Also, why not take your Z to one of their claim centers, have them quote the cost of repairs then have them cut you a check, of course the cost will be minus your deductible. Then just deposit it and then go get the car repaired at your chosen shop.

I wouldn't even bother going through your insurance company... They are going to jack your rates to get their money back, its going to show up on your car fax as an accident and its going to cost you more in the long run.
Unless your subframe is bent or damaged or the cost is substantial... But you could probably get that back up and running for under $1000... Just judging by the picture.
Replacing with aftermarket everything will probably be the more expensive way to go.
The wheel doesn't even look damaged did you just dk into a curb? And bend your upped and lower control arm, Along with all the non adjustable links?
Get it checked out and let us know what needs replacement...
