If you never plan to sell it, might be a few hours worth of fun to buy back and go nuts on it.

But if you plan on doing what most do and keep for a bit then sell, well, that $9500 you're getting is a lot more than what you could reasonably expect on the market.

And you needn't do a thing to make that much money.

Me, I'd walk....NOT worth the effort. Rather spend that time MAKING money, not RECOVERING money.

I was refering to a Z that's already in auction and is in the same condition as when it was wrecked.

Buying a restored DE 350z with a salvaged title is something I would advise against unless its going to solely be a project car

Then why is everyone telling the OP to buy his wrecked car back, instead of taking the $9.5K?

No matter what it costs to buy/repair, he ends up with a salvage Z worth 6K max, as opposed to $9.5K cash. And that $6K net is minus the $1700 buyback and minus the (unknown) repair costs. How does that make any financial sense? Also, none of those aftermarket parts are worth 30% of what they cost if they were to be sold, so that's not part of the equation, either.

That's not how it works. He get's the $9500 regardless. Then he has first right of buy back so that the ins company doesn't have to pay all the fees associated with taking the vehicle to auction. I have had friends buy back their bikes all the time after slight accidents. The ins pays them for the loss than they purchase the bike back off the ins company (once they pay you for the loss the vehicle becomes theirs)
