Update (2/20/16)
Picked up some 2004 G35 sedan suspension!! The Z and G share the same suspension design and mounting points, a lot of G35 sedan owners will swap in 350z springs and shocks to lower their car 1”+ and for better handling (stiffer springs). To my knowledge it hasn’t been done before (who wants to lift a Z? Besides me. NOBODY) but in theory the G sedan stuff should swap right in, raise me up an inch or more, and give me more suspension travel! The plan is to test fit this weekend and replace the shocks with Bilstein HD’s, which will be sent out and rebuilt after each stage rally event or as needed.
Also installed some two way hingeless two way vents on the roof. They’re actually designed for 18 wheelers, but are a popular upgrade the rally community! They will draw in fresh air at speed and create positive pressure, which keep the dust and dirt out. There is more dust than you could ever imagine, and it WILL make its way into any unsealed hole or crevice. These vents are KEY in preventing that!! Measure 100X cut once!
I think you need to get yourself a sweet carbon fiber hatch to save some weight in the back... Think their is one for sale from some dbag in Massachusetts in the regional for sale section...
I bet cutting into the roof was a fun time.

Would prefer a dry carbon hatch Need to save as much weight as possible.
I actually thoroughly enjoyed cutting into the roof- it was the measuring that was stressful! Making sure I left plenty of room for roof the cage and padding.
You should just remove it all together the stock hatch is an anchor... If you ever make it to western Mass and want an extra hatch shell to cut up or put plexiglass in to retain your stock hatch pm me I have an extra shell sitting on my patio... It was going to be a tunnel hatch project but at this point its probably more like scrap metal...

Thanks for the advice! I was looking for the G35 stuff for months but gave up after a while (didn't want to pay $300+). After you mentioned it I ended up putting a new WTB post up on a local VQ page and found the whole set for $50!! About an hour from my shop too

Hmm that's not a bad idea- I've thought about gutting the underside of the hood but not the hatch. That could work as long as the seal is tight enough to keep the dust out! Could you snap a couple of pics of your extra hatch if you get a chance?

Hood weights 19 pounds, you will not lose much.
It's possible to cut a bit out if the hatch and keep it sealed, then if course stick on foam rubber can always make it seal if you cut the wrong area

Their she is in all her glory. Its basically a bare shell with about 4 cans of expanding foam inside.
I was going to cut sheet metal and then fiberglass it into a tunnel hatch, but then I ended up just buying a carbon hatch.. I stole the window and the rubber seals along with the wiring, hinges and closing tab... Think it's about 55lbs as it sits.. The carbon fiber hatch is about 22lbs...
