Default Low Mileage Z with no records

Heyall Z'folks,
I'm looking at this Z with 75k miles, clean title, but no maintenance records. Owner claims to have done alignment, a clutch job, and "full tuneup", which are all checkable. I'm thinking of getting a mechanical inspection as well, but does this scream sketch to anyone? Owner had the car for less than a month, since he realized he didn't have the funds to own it.

EDIT: it's an 2006

Inputs are appreciated, thanks!

A month usually means flipper or a bad car.

That was my initial thought too, but I've been in the same situation before, and the car wasn't bad, it's just that I had no funds (back in HS). Also, it's local, so no link.

Same thing happened to me also. The previous owner payed cash for the car when he purchased it used from a dealer. He also purchased it without his wife knowing about it. Needless to say it was a good deal for me at the time.

I wouldn't exactly say that's "low milage".. but anytime I hear anyone claim "clutch job" and "just did a tune up" before selling the car either means flat out lie cause its hard to investigate with out tearing the car apart (which probably wont ever happen to call the bluff).

Or its a POS beater and needs repair/replacing from abuse and was fixed "just enough" to last until post sale.

As with everything it could be legit. Could be a scam. Part of the gamble. Use your best judgment and meet the seller. The price and seller can usually be a dead giveaway 90% of the time.

If hes 25 or older and still talks and dresses like hes 19 or a club promoter RUN! lol

Being a 2006 model year, perhaps he purchased without doing research and now he realizes his rev-up engine has an oil consumption issue.

I agree that's low miles but the fact he owned it for only a month would have me go in another direction.

Rev up has issues with oil consumption. You can test the clutch by putting it in a high gear and seeing how it is.

Check the carfax and paint/body lines to see if it was in an accident.

New clutch or clutch job at 75k seems a little too early. I have 56k and it still works great. Unless he's talking about clutch fluid change.

Agreed - have him define "clutch job". And ask who did the work.

Eh depends. Stop and go LA traffic will cause the clutch to wear faster than 300 highway miles everyday.

I've got 154,000 on my original clutch, and the car has been tracked half a dozen times and to The Dragon 12 times for ZDayZ. I may have a record?

How would he know what maintenance was done when he has only owned the car for a month... He is in the same boat as you, he got himself into a car that needs more work then he is willing to deal with... My 04 has 75k and I dont consider that low considering the nature of the car.

You guys know the average is like 10-12k miles per year right? 75k is pretty low mileage for a 10 year old car.

But only just.. I think that's good mileage.. But now low...

My 05 is at 47,xxx and I feel I'm just barely on the tip of being able to say "low mileage" with it. Thts just my classification tho. But hell I've literally seen people title "LOW MILAGE!" then you open the ad to a 210k Toyota Camry

I personally only put on 5-7k annually and that's usually split between 3 or 4 cars/bikes at the time. So most of my cars don't go far from the mileage I buy them at. So my "low mileage" classification might be lower than others I guess.

Im the same way, I dont put a lot of miles on my own personal vehicles, I drive all day for work so its not the first thing I want to do in my free time...

Average mileage only applies for daily driver type cars like civics, altimas, and corollas... You can daily drive a Z but how are you supposed to mess with its factory goodness if its your only car.

So it's "below average". To me, "low" means under 5K/year.

Is the title "open", meaning, did the previous seller sign, but he never signed as buyer and sent it to the DMV for a new title? If so, don't touch it. NEVER buy any vehicle with an open title. This leaves you with ZERO recourse if something is fraudulent. Let's say you buy it and then the cops show up at your house and say it has a stolen engine in it? What do you do? As far as the cops are concerned, you've had that car in your possession since the date the seller wrote on the back of the title.
