Would you pay this much for this car? Quick opinions please
Hi guys,
I am shopping around for a high mileage used Z to throw my drivetrain into. Would you guys consider this a bad deal for me?
The interior is OK, not perfect but nothing that a detail won't take care of considering I will throw my Bride seats right in.
It is a 2004 touring, pearl white. Needs a new drivers side fender in front, passenger side fender in rear has a small dent in it, passenger side door also has small dents that I can live with. It could use a new front bumper, too. Oh, the nissan symbol in the rear is definitely in need of replacement.
All window locks and everything electronic function. The engine is good, tranny also shifted pretty well, no issues getting into gears except for the clutch rebound issue. It comes back, just slowly.
It has 230k miles, the clutch system seems to be showing signs of wear (not that I plan to keep any of that), but the pedal doesn't rebound very well at all.
The tires are OK, stock wheels which aren't curbed up.
Suspension felt tight, and there is no sign of rot anywhere. I checked the usual spots all around the vehicle above and under. No crazy rusted nuts or anything.
Would you guys pay 4600 for it? Should I tell him to go lower? I started at 4250, he started at 5k...
Let me know what you guys think it's worth

I would not want a car with that many miles unless I put them on. Plus body damage. It's your money, so if you're happy with service records go for it.

Thx. He really surprised me with the passenger side damage. It wasn't in the listing at all. If it wasn't for that I would have no doubts since I plan to replace the engine and tranny anyway.

Personally I would steer clear. I'm not sure what your budget is for a car you're looking to throw a new engine and tranny into but with this much damage and almost a quarter of a million miles I would look elsewhere.
Everyone hates on KBB, but for older high mileage mass produced cars like these it gives you some great insight as to what they sell for. A 2004 with this many miles with this trim level sells for around $3,000. Save your money. You can find lower mileage Z's that are better taken care of for less than the price he is asking.
Not to mention the repairs for just the cosmetics would run you another grand or so to fix.

Aside from the body damage, that thing has way too many miles for that price. I'd pass if I were you. There's probably a lot of parts that will need replacing to keep it running properly. You'd most likely end up putting in more money than you paid for it and its value would only decrease over time.

I think $4250 was more than fair... I wouldn't go any higher than that if I was you... Im sure a blown engine gem will show up... One just recently sold for $2500 and it was a track edition with brembo and rays still on it...
Then again if your in a hurry whats an extra couple hundred bucks...

CK good point about the chassis. My goal is to find a car that will be similar to where I was at in the G. 04-06, 150k miles, so the suspension bushings, ball joints, wheel bearings, etc will at least hold together before I get to replace them with the 450 WHP I plan to drop in.... Replacing parts like that is no big deal, but I would rather not for a while.
This car should really be more like 4k even in my opinion. Although the paint and body is looking pretty good, the rest of it has a lot of mileage on it. I'm not sure if I can ignore the mileage or not, because I will be replacing nearly everything.
The parts that I can think of to worry about would be power steering and suspension. Really I need to tear into the suspension pretty deep anyway, and plan to, to get back where I was in my G. Every bushing was done...... I have an energy kit waiting for the rear in whatever Z I buy. That rules suspension out because OEM isn't really good enough for me anyway.
So say I bought the car, swapped in my engine+ mounts/tranny+mounts, diff+diff bushings, re-did the suspension in the spring, then what?
What would break next? lol.
Thanks for the replies guys

Well just tell him what you wrote to us. Honestly you can probably sit on it too.
If he doesn't come down I doubt that 200k+ Z will sell anytime soon lol
I'd say if you can get him to $4,250 or close take it. a few $100 isn't going to kill you. Especially when you plan to mod as heavy as you say.
What is money when it's buying fun

Ended up sideways on the curb... But, just the bumper, oil cooler, and one intercooler pipe was damaged so it wasn't so bad. The front suspension got tweaked a bit, but since I wanted to paint the G for 3-4k anyway, why not buy a Z for 4 and have it all?
