P0335 -Crankshaft Sensor Cause?
Hey All,
My z threw a P0335 code this morning. I know what the code is and have encountered this before.
The reason for the post is to ask you Z junkies- Why?
I know this is a common issue with the 350, but what causes this sensor to go bad? The first sensor I had go bad a year or so ago looked like it had a bite taken out of it.. what happens the the pieces of the sensor in the bell housing?
Anyway, just curious if any of you have found the cause of our trans eating the sensor. It has been bothering me since my first sensor went bad and will be bothering me while i replace this one!
Thanks,
BB

I do have an aftermarket Clutch/Fly. Southbend "stage 2"
see post:https://my350z.com/forum/2003-2009-n...-flywheel.html
I was worried my kit may have come with a problem flywheel, but I did not order withing those years. Do these sensors usually just malfunction, or break within the bell housing? I am looking forward to getting the sensor out this time to see if it is broken or just dirty/malfunctioning.

There's no easy answer to why a sensor wheel breaks. It could be a bit of debris gets caught in there, or a material flaw in the part itself. No way to tell for sure, although I'm sure there are some factory engineers out there who have a more educated guess than this...

that is what i was thinking as well... so many possible variables. Ill also try and inspect my flywheel using the method in that post i linked just to make sure no bolts are loose and causing damage. Just curious about other Z owners and if they found anything as I have heard this is a common issue. I just like to avoid replacing parts without knowing what caused it to fail. Ill just chalk this one up to a hungry Z eating another sensor and replace it.

Interestingly enough, I performed an ECU reset that night and the car is running fine now. I am going to inspect the sensor this weekend to see for myself.
