2007 power steering pump replacement
I had some issues with my power steering going in and out, so i decided to change the pump. Replacing the pump was straightforward and easy, but thats not the problem. The problem is finding the correct pump for a 2007 HR motor. I went on rock auto and ordered myself a rebuilt pump. The pump came with a pulley, but the pulley was wrong. It was a 5 groove Pulley and my car uses a 6 groove.
I decided to take the pulley off my stock pump and put it on the new pump. I found that when I press the pulley onto the new pump, its very easy to destroy the pump, which I did - clearly, these pumps are not designed to take any axial loading.
So, I'm wondering if I even got the right replacement pump since the pulley was wrong. Also, when i went to various parts stores and searched for a pump for a 2008 (yes, my car is a 2007, but both are HR motors) they didnt have a pump for that year. It make me wonder if there was some mid-year change in 2007, and my pump is actually from a later part of the year while the one i got is for the older motors..?
So is there a difference in pumps for various years? Or is it just the pulley?
If i do have to swap around a pulley, what is the correct way to get these pulleys off since the center is not threaded. Also, how do you get these pulleys on safely?
I just found AC Delco part numbers from Rock Auto for various years:
36P0864 {#19319390} 2009
36P0864 {#19319390} 2008
36P0871 {#19319397} 2007
36P0871 {#19319397} 2006
I think, I might need the 2008 pump because the other pump is the same for the older engines..?

As far as i can tell, the older and newer pumps differ by only the pulley on them. I was able to swap the pulley to a new pump. But after i got everything back together, the car is just like before - no power steering. I think something else is wrong, its like the pump isnt getting any fluid or anything. I have no idea what it could be.
