Am I complete s*** with 0-60 ? (OBD and Torque)
Hi,
Recently I've been feeling like 350Z is slow. I've had a 3 month brake from driving that car so maybe my memories are fuzzy. I've tried 0-60 several Times (0-100kmh to be exact) and I never got a good time. It's anywhere between 7-10 seconds and with TCS off
Now, I never used stopwatch or recording. I've used OBD2 (OBDLink) and Torque. There's a big delay on my phone when I hit the 60mph. It shows my time about 2 seconds later.
I've had less than perfect launches (bog, wheelspin) in less than ideal conditions (damp or uneven surface) but come on! 8 seconds?
It sure doesn't feel like 8 seconds, more like 6. Did anyone try OBD2 and Torque to test 0-60? Am I just crap at launching?

Well assuming your vehicle is healthy and working as it should, depending on model, DE, HR, you SHOULD be in the low 6 to mid 7 range for a sprint to 60. Thats a realistic time for your standard driver. If you get a consistent 6.8 Randy Probst could probably manage 5.8 or lower if that means anything.

That's awfully slow for a car that does 0-60 in 5.4 sec stock (I know, the car isn't new and I'm not a pro on ideal conditions). I also got the bolt-ons : full dual exhaust, resonated test pipes, plenum spacer, modded plenum, ACT Streetlite SMF and clutch if it means anything. Still, I don't know if Torque is accurate. I really hope it is not. Heh

If it's the car then I'm not putting more upgrades to it. I wanted to do a turbo but it's lots of money and maybe it'll be better to just buy another car thought nothing has the looks of this Z and that hurts...

I was hoping for that.
Does our timer start automatically or do I have to push the button. You know, I'll be easy too focused during launch to not press it too early. I think I'll just try recording it with my voice launching with "3...4....go!" and finishing with "8 seconds? ****!"

No offense but youll never see 5.4 seconds to 60 in Rev Up. Its one of the heaviest and has the LEAST amount of torque in 350 family. A PERFECT driver in PERFECT conditions in a PERFECT car MIGHT see 5.4. You wont, no offense. The Rev Up is better than a DE for the circuit, it holds it breath longer, keeping you in the power coming out of turns. The HR is even better. The old DE though, that sucker IS VERY punchy off the line till about 40mph. I really think the old DE for daily driving was my favorite engine, even above my 370.

Nah, I would never expect to achieve 5.4 in stock. But I just think that 8 is way too much. I've seen many weaker cars on YT doing better (with even slower factory 0-60 times). I don't know what's worse. Me being **** or my Z being ****.

The Z33 is really long in the tooth. Hell the Z34 is too. Back in 03 thru 07, the cars were the creme of the crop for the coin. the 350 put a hurting on Mustang GT's, Camaros and was keeping pace with cars almost costing 3 times as much. Today though, they are merely "sporty". When a Camry and Accord are running 14's in the quarter you know things have changed. That being said, its still a really pleasurable, fun experience piloting a Z. True 2 seat coupe, RWD, great balance, punchy and a great sound with VQ warble. Sigh", I miss my 350 now. lol

Nah. It's not tuned.
BUT :
Yesterday was one of the rare days in autumn when road was dry. On my trip I gave a shot to 4-5 pulls. It told me two things :
#1 I may not be as s****y as I thought. I got 0-60 in 6.0sec
#2 OBDLink and Torque is crap for acceleration measurement.
Every pull was with TCS off, slow launch (afraid of wheelspin I launched too slowly)and shifted a bit too late.
But here's the weird thing. The same run, Torque displayed:
0-60mph: 6.0sec / 0-100kmh 7.0sec
Now what the heck? I think it would be possible if I shifted to 3rd gear between 96-99kmh but I didn't. Also, another run was 0-60mph: 7.0sec / 0-100kmh 7.0sec which completely doesn't make sense with car of that class.

Semi unrelated question but...
Do you know how Torque operates? I've googled for a bit but got all the possible answers so I don't know what to make of it.
Does Torque use GPS to determine speed?
Does it read the speedometer?
Does it read some sort of "true" ECU speed?
If it uses GPS through your phone/smart device then it's way too inaccurate to be used to time 0-60.
I know it uses the GPS in some of it's features but being that it reads OBD2 it should use the ECU for speed as that would be the logical and more accurate option. No?

I don't know that. That's what I tried to find out. I've noticed that both my OBD and my mobile phone's GPS have slow refresh rate - one second. So if you hit 59 mph in 5.0 sec. your 0-60 reading will be about 6.0 sec. That would explain why I hit 0-60mph in 6.0sec and at the same time 0-100kph in 7.0sec. Unreliable. Next time I'll use camera and measure time between launch and me saying "now"
