i think in the video, they sed that overall width does not increase by THAT much
i think its just that the cabin width has decreased, making the rear fenders look much wider. look at these pics. the top of the 370z seems less wide, making the haunches look wide. I do know the pics are at different angles but we should still be able to tell.
Try to find a former (?) member's car here. I think his user name was "magoo." It was a yellow 350Z that went under the knife to extend the fenders to fit 13" width wheels.

The pictures don't appear to be at the same scale either....

^ Thank you! No wonder I couldn't find him :-) It's a great comparison picture.
I wonder if they re-sculpted the car in such a way the fenders looked even larger, but the overall width of the car was barely 1/2" greater than the 350Z.
i think this is a better angle..the red 350z is taken at a little higher level..here's my car lowered but i think the angle of the shot is very close.
First, I would bet anything the fenders on the 370Z are wider. Second, the added width is accentuated in the 370z because the rear axle is closer to the rear of the car, causing the fenders to be more pronounced when viewed from the rear. Even in the rear 3/4 view the 370Z fenders look larger. More Porsche like. Which is good.
yes, im not saying the fenders are not wider than 350z. of course they are
im just saying, that even tho the fenders are wider, they said the actual width of the car is not THAT much wider. which im saying is because the cabin area width is prolly decreased a little
IIRC (until we get the actual specs), the 370Z is barely more than 1" wider than the 350Z. If that's true, then I'm just guessing that the hatch area was made narrower to give the appearance of wider fenders.
they are grotesque... that is the one place I am really not liking the 370.. the rear fenders.
I have to disagree with you 100% on that one. I think they are a defining element of the new car. They add a more muscular and agressive stance that the car needs.
The 350Z has a nice stance, to be sure, but the "fat rear" of the 350 has been replaced with a "tight rear" and "strong legs"..
It has a lot of the "Sexy Curves" of the 911, but distinctly "Z"

I think we all agree on that assumption that the 370Z might have the same track as the 350Z. But, the fenders are still technically wider than the 350Z. Think of it this way, a Porsche 911 can have wider fenders than those on a Suburban but a Porsche is obviously smaller. The width of the fenders doesn't depend on the size of the car. So regardless of how they did it I think Nissan pulled if off great. The 370Z has more of a serious presence to it with how the flares bulge out.
