A little disappointed about the color selection and the weight.
Don't get it twisted though, the 370 should have major handles now with all the suspension improvements and frame stiffening, even if it hasn't lost much weight. It'll probably pull a couple car lengths on the 350 on the straights too. I'm impressed about the overall exterior, interior, performance, and what this car will eventually bring in terms of pride & prestige to the Z community.
Its very clear now, in terms of performance #'s, no doubt Nissan hit it right on the nose:
GTR :: 911 Turbo
370z :: Cayman S
I was looking forward to a darker blue but instead they have this Monterey Blue which is lighter than Daytona Blue... looks like a very nice color for a chick... along with yellow and red -- I know many guys are looking forward to the red but really examine it for a moment.
both base and touring will have 18x8 and 18x9 wheels
the sport package which includes the rev matching feature, vlsd and big brakes comes with Rays in 19x9 and 19x10
Thanks for the clarification. Just to be clear I completely agree with your sentiments as far as the supposed "weight savings," especially being the owner of a modified '03 performance model. A 370Z, as nice as it may be, is not a future car I will be considering based on what I have seen so far.
In the 370z's defense the weight quoted above is for the Touring model which does have 19" wheels I believe. So if you compare it the 03 Touring model which was fitted with 18" wheels, smaller brakes, a lighter engine (I'm just assuming they used a heavier crank to increase displacement on the 370) and probably less sound deadening material it is lighter for what you are getting.
The new model also had a lsd which is heavier than an open diff from the base model. Besides the sound deadening, if they upgraded the materials that adds even more weight, than the larger engine brakes larger standard 18 inch wheels... It should lead to a better structure.
Like adding a rollcage basically offsets the weight savings from interior removal.$
Oh, wow. If these numbers are true, then Nissan really failed. The car weighs no less than my 03, has worse weight distribution, a smaller tank, and actually less (near identical) torque! It'll barely outperform an HR equipped Z33, from the sounds of it.
If I currently didn't have a Z, and I was in the market for one, I'd look to get an '07 or '08 so I could get the sexy lines of the Z33 with the HR. As it is, I'll keep my '03, crappy window motors and all, over a Z34.
I must say Im not surprised at the weight and hp at all. What Im surprised at is that with all that additional stuff crammed into the 370z[more airbags, added structural and safety, added ammenities, materials, heavier engine etc] they were still able to get it to be within 50lbs of the outgoing 350z comparable model weights.
Yes its not 3000lbs and not near the 200lbs less we kept hearing but it is still an accomplishment to be able to offer all that additional content and safety and still remain relatively around the same weight class.
Now for what really dissappoints me. The weight distribution 56/47???WTH..I guess that 99.0-100. wheelbase kinda had an adverse affect on weight distribution. Would have like it closer to 50/50. And the colors really dont do the car any favors especially that blue. Mag black is back so should have DB and maybe LS....So far I only like red, black and yellow. I think they should have given the car 350hp to offset there inability to come close to their initial claim of 200lbs less[if it was indeed Nissans claim and not mag speculation]. Oh well I still want one. Final drive is a little shorter but I dont know if that along with the 20hp + will make it much faster than an HR Z. I hope they test one against the Nismo 350z on a roadcourse just to see how far ahead or not it is than the ultimate outgoing model...
Cant wait to see if Nissan left any hp on the table with breathing mods. If it responds like the HR does to simple boltons this could be fun. Also the car has potential to drop into the low 3100lb with some noice aftermarket pieces like Brides, Braille battery, lighter exhaust etc...
