370z vs Mustang GT

will you notice the difference between an IRS and a live axle with bumps? of course. it is not as luxurious or refined, the entire rear absorbs the hit and you can feel it. I was concerned about it before I got the car too, but it's just more road feedback to me now. it is not a deal breaker or nearly as dramatic as you make it sound. it 'feels' different and it sounds like it shook your confidence, and I've been there before .. once you lose confidence in a car it is hard to enjoy/push hard.
between the performance based cars that I've had (350z, wrx, camaro, mustang), it inspires the most confidence I've had with a car in the corners. it has very neutral handling from the factory, no real understeer, grips amazingly well and provides superb feedback (steering wheel/rear wheels). the car is very predictable and easy to drive hard. I drive around with my evo pals that are running similar horse power with less weight (and of course, awd), and they cannot shake me in the twisties. I'm talking real world too, not track.

I don't think the stock (06+) 350z handles very well in stock form either - at least on mid-corner humps (Larger bumps) that seem to unweight the rear end cause a loss of traction (Too much compression damping for my tasteand not enough rebound damping). I think the biggest problem with the mustang that I drove was the stock rubber at 235 all around. Just not enough rubber for that heavy of a car and that loose of suspension. The bumps were more like broken/rough pavement which made the rear end slide out. Once I'm out of lane, that's it. But yeah, I only had the mustang for a few days which is not enough time to really get used to it.
If I went to buy something with two doors and four seats, the 5.0 would definitely be on my short-list.

I'd agree with that myself. Admittedly speaking i have no experience at all with american muscle as of late other than a local meet up with a dude with a Boss 302 and that thing handled like it was on rails. Totally blew me away and opened my eye's to the latest models. The appealing thing like the Z is the aftermarket IMO. I'd love to have my way with all of them just to see the limits.

have you seen how much aftermarket support there is for the mustang? pricing is fantastic on parts too, really cheap compared to the Z. check out www.americanmuscle.com or www.latemodelrestoration.com if you want to get an idea.
red - I hear ya. I am particular about my suspension set up too. I try to find that bottom line where I can be as low as I can go, but not compromise ride quality or utility/ability to go places.
I have the brembo package on my 5.0 and it comes with a firmer suspension setup over the standard GT setup, that was honestly just too harsh on bumps, not enough rebound. It's a good package though, if you're interested, read about how it compares to the boss 302 here, lots of undocumented features of the package.. http://www.brembo50.com/Default.aspx?pageId=1130035
I changed it out for eibach sportline springs, eiback struts and shocks, maximum motorsport caster/camber plates, and a BMR adjustable panhard bar. I've been on this setup for nearly a year and I am really pleased with it. lowered the car, improved the ride quality, eliminated wheel hop and brake dive.. I usually run out of ***** before my car runs out of ability.

Wait hold on.. I love Z's don't get me wrong but you got rid of your 5.0 for a 370?
After driving a 2010 gt and a 350z, my next car is going to be a 370z because I like the drive better between these two cars. But if I already bought the 5.0 holy f*ck I would never get out of the car. It's a much better car

I bought a 2013 GT Premium with Brembo and it handles well, not as good as the Genesis R-Spec that trade for it and definitely not as good as my Z. All cars have strengths and weaknesses.
The Z is the handler of the 2 the GT is the drag car of the 2. I wanted that exactly to have variety each one will put a smile in my face when I drive them, but for different reasons.
You cannot match than V8 Rumble. These things are supper responsive to mod’s not like the Z that only really wake up with force induction, also have a ton of support, cheap.
That Coyote is amazing, revs to 7k stock without a flat spot and have good low end torque with good high end power. The heads flow super well
Intake and tune =30whp $600 with the handheld and free tunes for life
In my Z when NA; manifold spacer, Intake, headers, cats, cat back, light weight pulley and flywheel , tuned = 35 whp. And you know how much $$$$
Love my Z that is why I keep it and trade my second car… but Mustangs have evolved.

Almost two years ago I traded in my 05' 6-Speed 350Z. Coincidentally, I got married a few months prior to trading the Z in for an SUV. Two weeks ago I got rid of the SUV and picked up a 2013 6-Speed 370Z. I test drove EVERYTHING up to a $44K price point. Genesis 3.8 R Spec and Grand Touring, BRZ, used C6, Charger R/T, WRX, even Volvo (that little T30 is a fun vehicle). It came down to the Genesis R-Spec and the 370Z. Corvette was awesome but I didnt want a used car. Easily the quickest car i test drove. Mustang 5.0 was fantastic. Pretty damn close to the C6. Clearly faster than the 370Z. It handled..well. Not very confidence inspiring though. On paper, more than capable and the power...just awesome. In the end though, the Z I felt most at home. The intimacy of a dedicated two seat coupe is what I adore. Sure, its not the fastest, theres always going to be someone faster. I dont care. It has PLENTY of power and IMO is a "90% car" meaning I can utilize 90% of the cars ability with my ability (in reality its far less than I imagine, lol). With the Mustang I didnt feel that connection or confidence. The Genesis was sweet but for the money it wasnt as powerful as I had hoped and felt very heavy. BRZ was..cute, not for me. The grip on the 370Z amazing, the car is very informative, very user friendly. It wont bite your head off like the 350.
