Now I know most of us here are Nissan fans, but try to look at it more objectively. Let me know what your input is. Looking for something fun, but yet refined and balanced as a daily driver.
GTR -
Pros:
- Good bang for the buck.
- Exclusive (so far).
- AWD so you can drive year round here in Canada.
Cons:
- It's a Nissan.
- Need to line up for delivery.
- Not mod friendly.
M3 -
Pros:
- Beautiful car.
- A good mix of power vs. luxury.
- Slightly cheaper than the GTR.
- It's a V8, and sounds like a V8.
Cons:
- Not as technologically advanced as the GTR, nor as fast.
- Every 20-year-old Asian kid has one around here.
997 C2S:
Pros:
- It's a PORSCHE.
- It involves you much more when driving than the other 2.
- It's a PORSCHE.
Cons:
- Least powerful of the bunch.
- Every 30-year-old guy in a suit downtown has one.
Let's see what you think...I'm on the fence right now between these 3...all in a similar price range, with similar purposes.
Alex

I'm in the exact same position. I'm also considering a used 996 TT, or 996 TT cabriolet. But I also really like Z06's and Vipers.
Of your list I choose 997 C2.
Edit: Let me rephrase that. I'm not in the exact same position. My Z has no power.
about 100K. Here in Canada cars are a little more pricey. GTR's MSRP is at 82K, M3 Coupe at 72K, and 911 at around 100K.
Alex,
When i think of a refined car i instantly go to an exotic.. Lambo and Ferrari. I don't really consider the GTR refined in the very least. From everything i've read it's suspension is too harsh and interior not up to par. M3 is a step up from the GTR quality wise but still not what i would call "Refined". The Porsche is as close as to what i would consider refined of the three.
Have you looked into a 360 Modena or a Gallardo? Yeah they'll be maintenance hogs but it's a ferrari and a lambo.
I've seen the Gallardo's and 360's starting around 105K on the Dupont Registry.
BTW - Good luck with this choice. I wish i was in the position of purchasing an amazing sports car.
The whole porsche thing is good I had one and sold it recently. It does drag on you a bit with people asking what car you have and saying its a Porsche all the time though, it's kind of annoying. There are a lot of mis-conseptions as to what and who owns a Porsche from the general public. It's a 1000hp car worth 10 million dollars and I must have a very small penis to own one kinda thing. That was pretty annoying dealing with it on a daily basis. Honestly I prefer owning my Z vs. my Porsche.
I would get a 997 C2S from that list. The GTR is just to techno geek for me. Its a nice car, but damn every loser running the IT department downtown will have one. Its like the l33t STI for uber nerds. So that pretty well removes it from any selection I would make. You'll sound like a total asshat explaining to people why it's so special. What you will end up doing is constantly explaining why you spent 85k on a Nissan when every nissan out there is a Maxima or Altima for most people. Half the world doesn't even know what a 350Z is so I just say a Nissan and most people assume it's a Sentra I'm driving. Fine with that.
The M3 is a cool car, not sure I would want one in Vancouver though cause it would be the most likely stolen of the three. The M3 is in high demand for parts. Lots of rich kids have them, and crash them and are looking for a cheap way to fix them. That or the place doing the body work is looking for a higher spread. So they steal you car to fix one that is crashed. Thats a huge business. Not so much with Porsche cause it's a different type of crowd that drives them.
THe other problem with the Porsche, is its all Old guys driving them, they dont know squat about cars and think they are all the most knowledgeable people on the planet. I had this one retard argue with me about the physics of a front strut bar and how it would make his car handle so much better he could feel it. Also how the stock intake is designed by Porsche to be the absolute best it could possible be so there is no reason for an after market unit cause all it will do is lose torque (everything loses torque to Porsche guys) and cause the MAF to fail and get a CE light. ETC ETC ETC. I was actually kicked off a Porsche forum for arguing with a long time member and proving him wrong and really rubbing it into his face. They booted me even though I was right for dogging who was these losers "GOD".
M3 hands down. Good all round daily driver sports car. Who cares what kind of other people are driving the car. You can customize it to the way you want it. Your 350z stands out from the run of the mill 350 so I don't see why you can't make the M3 stand out.
I actually went through the same decision recently. I ended up going with the M3 because I felt it was a great balance of sportiness and luxury. Felt like I needed something a little more practical than the Porsche 996 I had and have not regretted my decision ever since.
The GTR was a top contender but figured that I would get raped by the markups and wasn't to crazy about its looks. It is an amazing machine though.
Well I really don't think you can go wrong with any of the cars mentioned...it's a good dilemma to have
I've been driving this bugger(BamBam's) around for a few days now..
The interior is great (even though it has the same visors as my 08 Versa (and Z for that matter))
Pictures do this car NO justice at all..
Yea I admit I haven't seen one in person so I'll have to reserve judgement until I do. I also wasn't all that impressed with the M3's looks until I saw it in person.
love the GTR, from design to power and the legend behind it, but the mark-up is just too much (maybe wait until mark-up settles down )..also an automatic...its also just a Nissan like 350z-Jim said
M3 has always been a favorite, great balance of power and luxury...the design is...well, u get used to it..and im sure after a few thousand dollars worth of exterior modification, it will definitely be a head turner..the fact that a V8 revs up to 8400 alone is crazy, who knows, with an ECU manage + turbo, you'll have a turbocharged v8 running up to 9000RPM; thats just insane
Porsche is a porsche; prestige, class, timeless design, classic...
with that said, i'd get a white M3..the least expensive of the bunch, high RPM v8 power, and from the looks of how you transformed your 350z, im sure the M3 would be 100x better; interior, exterior, and power
