View Poll Results: Rolling start M5 VS GT-R, Who Would win till 170mph
Straight line rolling start: GT-R -OR- M5, who would win?
My mates got this M5 (E60 SMG) who he wants to race vs the GT-R...
His over confidence that the M5 will win has got me thinking twice...
Is it possible that he might have a chance?
I know this site does not condone street racing, but we will race on the street under controlled conditions...
We might have a couple of goes, a 50-60mph rolling start run and a 20-30mph rolling start run... we might even try a launch from 0, but i wont use the Launch control (obviously)
we will go till about 170mph, then back down...
So, lemme know what ur predictions are for this race
both cars are stock
EDIT: Videos Will Be posted on this site and streetfire and My GT-R.com

but my prediction- the gtr. i think the m5's luxury/sport combination makes it too slow

The reason this is a big deal, is cause the guy im supposed to go against tells me that there is no chance in hell that the gt-r can beat a m5 with a rolling start... and i beg to differ, it grew, the friends heard, and if i lose i might not get any mojo any more >.< ! !
+1. The GTR's advantage is only from a dead stop (but of course, you'd be voiding your warranty). You should look at the trap speeds of both cars at the end of the 1/4.

crap , so theres no chance in hell for the gt-r to win in a rolling stsrt vs a good m5 driver ?

tried with a couple of cars...
GT-R>R8
GT-R>CLS55AMG
But Never with a M5...
and M5 > both those cars...
Cool photo. No need for the bogus bench racing poll.
there is a vid on youtube of a GTR racing an M5 and i think a Mercedes from a stop. They seem to reach triple digit speeds and the GTR is at least 1 bus length ahead and keeping its lead without much trouble.....and that is because the M5 sounds like its not stock
There are a few vids on youtube with these cars. Also on M5board there are a few threads and vids with members racing.
Basically 0-100 or even from a roll, the GTR is hard to beat, but the M5 starts to make up ground over 100mph. Trap speeds are good indicators, but even with a lower trap speed, the M5 really comes into its own over 100.
ALL Bimmer drivers think they got the fastest cars.. even when they're slow as hell. It'll be a close race, but M5's got the weight disadvantage and also torque. GT-R will pull instantaneously from the start and they'll even out, I would think. I don't think M5 will start pulling, even on higher speed.. maybe 160+
the M5 is rated at 500 and has 380tq and weighs 4,0xx lbs. the M5 does the 1/4 in 115mph.
compared to:
the GTR is rated at 480 but proven to be putting out closer to 530 or something I remember. The GTR has 430tq and weighs 3900lbs. the GTR does the 1/4 in 116mph.
(both stats taken from Edmunds test results on US spec cars, best stats bolded)

on numbers alone, the GTR looks like it should be competitive. I don't get people's stupid comments? are my numbers wrong?
