Default 350z VQ35DE + Mazda FD3S = hotness

Came across these. Hope they're not reposts but definately a nice replacement for the cheesy souding rotary POS (jk)

Check out the other sick hybrids on this site (RB26 Altezza, 2JZ S15 Silvia, etc.)

Wow. That is neat but. I know that there are a few people dropping LS1 engines into the RX7 but I would think that it would mess with the weight distribution and CG.

Most people are worried about that with the RB26 swap in the Z but the engine has a lower CG than the VQ and is about the same weight as a TT VQ35. The VQ on the other hand is heavier and taller than the 13B. Nice swap none the less.

The only thing about it is that if he leaves it stock it is kinda a waste of money horsepower wise plus the added weight.

What a waste of car. The owner should be taken to a cannibal to eaten allive. It kill the heritage of the car. Made that link has a bunch of jacked up swaps

BTW not saying that the VQ is not a bad motor but it doesn't belong in a RX, just like the 350z with the 3 rotor motor, it doesn't belong in it.

Oh wait guys.

Lets go blowtorch and eat this guy because he killed such GREAT Mazda heritage ... Please..

I'd rather have a VQ than a 13B weed wacker if i had the car. Many owners are swapping LS1 motors on these already.

If you think about it many swaps are a "waste of money" and more or less weight in the end.

The point of these hybrids is not the money spent. You're just like any American tuner whose sole purpose is to come to the best dollar to horepower solution. If you care so much on spending less buy a honda and a $2000 turbo kit.

The point is it's just pretty trick and i guess it replaces a more hefty NA engine in a light car. But that doesn't really makes sense here in the states since 2347344213 people swap a turbo kit on stock motor and call it a day.

Just some constructive criticism

I guess to you a car is just a car. Not saying the FD is the greatest car in the world. I would say the same thing if any one put a piston motor in any rotary powered car or the same as putting a rotary motor in a 1972 240z. I like my Z and not just because the VQ motor is great, but what it represent. When I had my FDs I like what it represneted, something different than everyone else has.

I had 3 FDs, never had any issue with them either. The rumors about FD blowing up is so over rated and I can say that because I owned the car. But the reason I don't have no more is because it does makes you paranoid. I was constantly make sure the temp were okay (I lived in South Carolina at the time) and all that. So don't be disrespecting my opinion when I have some respect for cars and what makes them.

Mr X, didn't sound like he was disrespecting your opinion; just giving his own.

The rotary motor in those cars are actually pretty heavy. I believe the LS1 is only like 50 pounds heavier, so I DOUBT he added much if any weight with this wap.

Well your opinion isn't a "fact" that states we should cannibalize the guy. I stated my opinion as well. I didn't disrespect yours. Some light critisism is welcomed but not some overely retarded statement. Either way man no sweat.. I don't wanna turn this into a flame war. I think it's damn cool and worth it.

Either way not everyone loves the 13B. It's an amazing motor but i prefer pistons

with Ford owning mazba, it would make more sense to drop a small block ford under the hood.

something else I just realized about the VQ in that FD....it has no middle or upper intake manifold yet....I wish them luck trying to fit it under a hood.

Look at the link the OP has. It shows a picture of the intake manifold. I think it is pretty neat too.
