MD- I can top that. Pun intended...
My 06 started with short tears along the rear side pieces. I did research and decided to go to Bass Pro Shop, Got some braided 35# fishing line. Sewed them carefully by hand, you could hardly tell. A few days later I noticed the tear opening again and thought the fish line tore. Nope. The line was fine, a new tear started 1/8" from the old one.
The material's just too old. Gonna order the E-Bay Haartz.

Just wondering, I know everyone's insurance is different. Has anyones insurance cover the top? My top has like a 5 inch slit by the rear view window.

I have the exact same problem in the exact same place. This top is only 3 years old. AND it is the second one I have put on in 7 years. I took it to the dealer. They say it is a defect. REALLY bummed.

Buy the top yourself. You can get a good one for 500 bucks. A good top guy or auto upholstery shop will do it for about 500 labor. Don't buy the top thru Nissan!

I have a 2008 and had the same problem with small tears about 3/4 in on the sides, about 1 inch below where the canvas joints are near the top. They were actually symmetrical in size and location. Before knowing about any factory defects, I did some research on repair methods/material and after finding out that it was going to cost $120 each side for using sail repair tape, I decided to just get the tape and swing kit, and did it myself. I relied on my prior canvas tent making skills. I used all the "rules of thumbs" learned on canvas repair, but to my dismay within days the canvas tore where the stitches were. The tears are now about 7 inches long and the so called miracle sail repair tape proved to be useless, especially on a dry climate like Denver, CO. It didn't handle well the changing surface tension, especially while opening/closing the top. I went to a highly ranked top installer and the quote (top & installation) came up to $1,900. The insurance adjuster told me the top would have to be first evaluated, before they make a decision, but my deductible is $700. BTW, I found online recommended OEM vinyl tops for $500, and canvas (more durable) for about $700, plus S & H, but everywhere I looked, the recommendation was to have it professionally installed, due to the need for some specialized tools, besides the know-how. Someone attempted it and told me it looks terrible and the tensions are uneven.

Sounds like you may have bent the 5th bow limit switch. Open the top so 5th bow is straight up. Look on frame driver side for a small switch. You need to bend it so it sticks out about 5mm and you hear a click when the rear is flush.
Pm me with your # and I'll txt u a pic.
