Anyone know how to manualy open soft top?
Can anyone help me out. I was having a problem last fall with my soft top. It wouldn't close properly. So I followed the manual closing proceedure in the manual. Now I cannot get it open to work on it. The fifth bow (back section of soft top) is locked into the trunk and I would like to know if there is a quick and easy way to unlock it so I can fold the 5th bow forward and then open the hard cover. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance

The dealer will be my last resort as there is no warranty on my z. I called them last week and the soft top controller unit is around $1200.00 just for the part. I want to try and figure out the problem myself to avoid being raped at the dealer.

Hmm understand your problem, normally manual closing procedure is fully described, just to close the top in an emergency case.
But how to open it after it has been closed manually, is not explained.
I will check on my car how to unlatch the 5th bow manually.

I have check both car and the handbook.
Once manual locked the 5th bow cannot openend. The manual mention to remove the telescopic dampers of the rear roof part. And have the rear part of the folding roof resting on the cover by its weight, and not to lock it.
There must be somewhere a hidden manual unlatch cable for the 5th bow.
Keep me informed

Thanks for trying to help Mang,
I was at the delaers a couple of days ago and they were stumped. One idiot actually told me that it was impossible to do. He actually said that once down it can NEVER be opened. So according to him I am stuck with a non-converting convertable for the rest of its life. I think not. I am going out to work on it right now and try to fugure this damn thing out. Oh yeah, the other guy at the dealership called the nisssan tech line and they need a few days to figure it out. They will get back to me. Wish me luck or I will have to use an exacto knife to open it and duct tape to close it every time.

Hi David,
I really checked every written item on this one but couldn't find the answer.
As I wrote before the Nissan emergency procedure is not to latch the top.
Did you activate the unlatch mechanism by external 12 Volt trough the wiring loom ? Thats what in my mind to do so.
But you have to find which wire and routing....................
Let me know

Hi Mang.
I actually had to remove the climate control panel, to remove the panel between the seats, and remove the lower door trim, to remove panel covering the subwoofer, to remove both rear side trim pieces to remove the panel covering the speakers to remove the real storage bin to access the rear of teh vehicle. Once I gained access I had to pull down the soft top storage area finishing cover to access the inspection panel under teh 5th bow of the soft top. After opening the inspection panel all it took was a pull of the release cable to unlock the 5th bow. Simple. Now that I have it open I just have to figure out why the top will not work on its own. Wish me luck.
Have a good day.

Bringing this thread back. My issue is on my sister-in-law's (SIL) car. Top would not close a few months ago. 5th bow seemed to be the issue. Followed the owner's manual to close the top (which includes disconnecting a connector on each side). Top got closed and 5th bow motor removed. I followed the 5th bow motor repair guide on the forum.
Yesterday she brought the car over to install the 5th bow motor. Once installed, I tried the top. The windows never lowered and only noise was a "click" from the center rear area. I didn't remember about the connectors. How does one access the connectors when the top is up? How can the top be operated manually to reach the connectors?
Thanks in advance.

Thank you sir, I am trying to figure out how to get to the 5th bow motor. my top will not go down. the process begins by moving the passenger seat forward while rolling down the windows, but then nothing after. The top is unlatched as i can pick it up from the back and drop down to re engage.
I am assuming I need to replace that motor.

Help with manually opening top
Hi David! Was wondering if you could share how you manually opened your top. My windows roll down but wont go further than that. I hear clicking but nothing activates. Thank you so much. Aloha from Maui!
