My trunk pops just enough for me to get my fingers under it--is this normal? I purchased my car used and it was missing one of the springs. I replaced the spring and did the penny fix and it still only pops about a 1/4". How high does your roadster trunk pop?
I just bought my roadster and noticed the same problem...my former car(Miata) had the same problem...you could pop the trunk and not notice it was open...so the trunk lights stayed on...Moss motors sold a strut kit that popped the trunk open...it worked great. On the Miata you could also turn the trunk key to the left and disable the remote and the inside release...no more accidental openings.
I've just told myself that it is the "anti-theft" feature...people can't tell you left your trunk open. Yeah, yeah...it's not true...but you gotta find some good once in awhile about a car's quirks!!
I just looked at the trunk struts... why could you not replace the struts with more powerful ones that were strong enough to raise the trunk lid...they might take a little more effort to close but would at least open the trunk lid. It was very handy to pop the Miata's trunk lid open with the remote...it opened completely open.

Reason: typos
I'm guessing that Nissan chose not to based on a belief it might stress the decklid?? That's the only reason I could figure. I know that GM and Ford had some issues with glass back windows on SUVs that would break when customers put in a heavier than stock shock...not that our decklid would break...but maybe flex and crack the paint or something... Just a wild a** guess, so don't quote me!
