Has anyone replaced or took off the protective tape
Has anyone replaced or just removed the protectoive tape on the tonneau cover. Just got a used roadster and thier is dirt under the tape that I can't clean. The part I am referring to is number 2 on the picture.
No I didn't draw it I got from a Nissan parts site that sells all those parts, so you are telling me the Tonneau cover will come off if you remove that protective tape, don't see how that's possible all the tape does is protect the paint. We are talking about the same thing here, I am talking about the clear tape on top of the cover were the rubber from the top sits, it's like the 3m clear bra film

Did you draw that?
If so, you should be a professional draftsman/woman.
I took that tape off because it had grime under the edges. I'm not sure if there are any issues caused by doing this. If your going to remove it be very carefull...go slowly because it can take some paint with it. I'm not sure but I think it is there to protect the paint. It also maybe there to help the seal of the top.
Thanks Shilow that's why I want to mine off because of all the grime under the edges. I was told by Nissan that is only to protect the paint and nothing more. I started taking some of it off last night and your are right it peeled a little paint. So I stopped and going to get some goop-off and see if that makes it come off easier.
Just take your time. It is a practice of patience. I had to pull a few inches and step away. I would suggest pulling the tape slowly and leaving some of the adhesive behind. Then go back with the goo gone and/or rubing compoud to clean it off the paint.
a blow dryer might help with the process as well... In fact I think I would use both. First a little Goo-gone and and then a little heat to break the adhesive bond before I ever began peeling..
For any of you guys who have removed the plastic strip, have you found that the paint is coming off over time due to the top rubbing against the cover? My strip is all yellow and nasty.
