Default Having the top going down issue

My top has the 85-90% going all the way down issue. Not sure if its the bands or that 5th bow motor (probably the motor). I bought an extended warranty that covers the top so I'm hoping I can use it on this issue. Because I don't want to shell out a $1000 to fix this thing.

If anyone has any tips on this fix shoot them at me.

Had the same thing happen the first week after I bought my '06 recently. Mine was the elastic straps. Good writeup in this forum about it.

Good luck...

Did you buy the OEM straps and have to drill out the rivets or the ones from a fabric store and used 3m double sided tape?

I had already researched the possible culprit here in this forum. Having that knowledge, I knew what to do but decided to have them diagnose it just in case it was the 5th bow motor or something else. Took it back to the dealer 3 days after I bought it and told them how the top stopped opening all the way. They called back later that day and said it was the elastic straps.

They ordered some from a local Nissan dealer. They drilled out the rivets and installed the new ones according to instructions from Nissan.

Top works perfectly now. Every time...

How much was this repair?

I'm still at a loss on how some elastic straps cause this issue.

The repair was covered under the 30 day warranty. The straps ensure that everything folds correctly and not bunch up. The top won't stow away correctly if it doesn't fold right.

That makes sense. I'm going to try and hit Hobby Lobby tonight and get some elastic and 3m double tape and see what happens.

my 04 always did that.. I'd just flip the button to close an inch or two...then open again...once or twice would always make it go on down...

How hard is it to replace the elastic straps My 08 350z opens most of the way but stops exactly how it is pictured in the photo. I went to sell it today and while showing the car of course it didn't work right. thinking maybe it was a sign telling me not to sell it. what was the approximate cost for replacing the straps
