Holding out for Convertible
I've been tracking 350Z for long time, and I am ready to get one. I even went down to local dealership to look at the dealer stock and possibly pre-order one.
I know exactly what I wanna get, SilverStone burnt orange leather Touring 6MT(now a convertible). Then I find out convertible is on the way for spring '03!!!
Anyone out there holding out for convertible like me?
And does anybody have latest scoop on 350Z convertible? Only thing i can find is a picture of 350Z convertible, and even that looked like Photoshop'ed image or artist's rendering...
hopelessly waiting for 350Z Convertible in TX...

same here
I'm in the same boat as you two. I was able to sit in a 350Z coupe and it seems dark to me. High doors, low ceiling. I'm curious to see what the convertible looks like and is priced like.
The G35 Coupe is appealing too. I was able to sit in one at the Texas State Fair last weekend. It's a great looking car. The back seat and moon roof are great additions over the 350Z, losing some performance though obviously.
It will be a tough decision once the convertible and G35 are available.

Folocity, CatchZZ,
You can go to the Infiniti website and configure a G35C to determine the MSRP for the model you are considering. I was surprized to find that the equivalent to a Touring 350Z was only about $1600 more and the G35C had a sunroof at that price. I did not find a color that I liked as much as the Daytona Blue, LeMans Sunset, or the Brickyard. The choice is getting harder. Z Coupe, Z soft top, G35C. Nissan has a stable full of winners.

What really triggered my decision is the lack of info on pricing. And with the dollar a bit unstable lately, I worried that the price of the convertible would end up being more then I want to spend. In addition, there is still no formal word from Nissan, and I think the February date often quoted is optimistic. Not sure how long my present ride will last. Finally, there are supposed to be only 5000 made the 1st year. Somehow I think that getting one might turn out to be a hell of a lot harder then the hardtop has been.
My performance LeMans is expected in February. I'm still not sure how I feel about going without a convertible for the 1st time in 5 years. I really, really love driving with no top. But I finally figured that if I decide I need the convertible, I can just sell the hardtop. The 1st year of the new Z, I probably will minimize any hit I take on depreciation. And I will be able to test drive the convertible, compare the 2, decide if the trunk space is enough, and if I really do prefer the convertible.
I ordered through Dan Z (Bluefish) and he knows I had been waiting for the convertible. I plan on asking him to let me know when he finally has a convertible I can test drive. In the mean time, I will soon be getting to know my beautiful new Z. And who knows, maybe I'll surprise myself and decide I really prefer the top on.

Zs are coupes ONLY!
The Z was, is and always will be a coupe. The roof gives the car its character as it has since 1970. Nissan realizes that opening the market to more buyers by offering a converible will mean more profits. Smart business.
There is NO WAY that lopping the top off a rigid unit-body sportscar can help with handling. Flex has to increase. I suppose that those wishing to tan their domes won't care about handling anyway. I guess they won't mind paying $10k over base either.
For me, the Z is a coupe. Period.
FWIW
70 zcar (gold, enthusiast)
78 zcar (blue, modified)
84 zcar (gray turbo, driver)
03 zcar (LeMans, Enthusiast, Feb!)
