You get just about the same gains on an HR. Maybe 5hp less.
not really, A.H gained about 50 whp, but thats with every bolt on there is. this is just cats and an exhaust... the vhr is better than the hr in the "response to mods" area about the same amount as the hr is better than the de...
i think its somewhat amusing how defensive hr owners get that they're engine is no longer the best vq available, i'm an hr owner myself, but i have no trouble admiting that the 370 is superior in every way (except maybe looks, but thats completely subjective, so it doenst even count).
another thing that cracks me up is how some hr owners on here are saying "I'd never trade my 350 hr for the 370, the 350 hr is legendary"

That's a lot of power for just a few bolt ons. I'd trade my HR for a 370Z in a heartbeat. It's clearly an all-around better car. Anyone who can't admit that is in denial.

The addition of high flow cats and a cat back exhaust really unleashes the beast with the 370Z. I had Technosquare install and test a set of Stillen HFC's and a Stillen CBE. In the end, the Stillen HFC's didn't put out the power that the Berk's did, however it's a decent starting point.
HOLY SH!*!!!! Am I reading this correctly???
Bone stock 370 + Stillen HFC + Stillen Catback = +40whp gain and +51whp with tune/reflash!?!?!?! Thats unheard of!!!! Can anyone else replicate these gains? If this is correct the 370z OEM exhaust must be REALLY restrictive.
First, the graph... power parts (black line) and then power parts with the tune (red line)...
Remember my base line? 261 whp on the Superflow dyno. With the addition of the HFC & CBE it jumps clear up to 301!! Add 11 more with the tune and 312 is what I'm left with. Wow!"

I'm pretty sure he gained about 65whp with boltons from completely stock on an Auto.
I have no delusions that the 3.5HR is in any way better than the 3.7HR. It's just not. I'm just pointing out that the gains aren't that different from each other. I'd love a 3.7VHR in my Z.

how does porsche make 415 horsepower out of their NA 6-cylinder?
Higher compression, rev's higher, better flowing heads, more aggressive tuning, more aggressive cams. Theres plenty of ways. With a porsche, you can make certain assumptions about the buyer. Like that they will maintain the vehicle properly, put the proper fuel and oil in it, etc. You can't make that assumption with a $30K Nissan.

he started with about 265 (i don't remember for sure, but it was in the 260's) and ended with 318. 318-265=53.

it makes about 380 to the wheels, its not that much of a stretch when you're designing an engine from scratch. imho, the vq35hr can make that much with a set of cams that will make power upto 8500 rpm (like the gt3) and some nice headers (nothing thats on the market right now) and other supporting mods required. it will prolly need better shortblock internals also so that it doesnt' blow up revving that high. this would have to be a full build, not just bolton's
*note the imho

I wouldn't trade CARS, as I'm not a fan of the changes made to the 370, but motors? I'd change in a heart beat. However, I'm coming from a world where the biggest motor you could get was a 3.2L and they were big and heavy and expensive, so we used 1.8L blocks that could be maxed out to 2.1L. Having evne 3.5L is a godsend for me!
