hey guys, new to this forum. I guess once you buy a VQ powered car, there are several forums that are a big help for these car's & even though I have an FX I have been able to find valuable info here that still applies to my vehicle, soooo, here I am

I have wrote a guide for installing paddle shifters on any nissan/infiniti, including the Z's, G's & the FX's, as well as the M's... thought this might be something some of you guys here may be interested in, so here is a link to the guide I wrote : http://www.infinitiscene.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=1369

if anyone has any questions or anything you can post them up here & I would try to assist as much as I can... I have not done a Z yet, but I'm sure it could be done, just a matter of determining the mounting of the paddles themselves, also, while the wiring may be very similar, there is a good chance that the color codes & maybe even terminal #'s will be diferent, I am trying to collect the wiring for other cars too, so if anyone has a diagram of the shifting from the manual for a Z I would apreciate it, so I can add that to the guide as well

yeah, zacks kit wil be cool & much easier, but if a kit is not available then this is still an option... wish there was a bolt in kit when I built mine, some cars theres no chance of a bolt in kit though

That is freaking sweet!!! I wish I had the confidence to do it, I hate using the shifter, and i'm very used to paddle shifters playing racing games with a wheel.

hey guys thanks, I'm really glad to be able to share this with you all. I have a body shop in bay ridge brooklyn & if there are any local G's or Z's that would consider this paddle shifter upgrade I'd be happy to work with someone local to see how the mounts could be developed for you guys...

Is its response time for up/downshifts the same as if you used the shiftknob in manual mode?

I like how it looks really OEM. If i get more info on how to do it for a 350z, id be tempted to try it myself. Do you think you oculd get your hands on a Z to do a writeup on?

i Have to say, nice write up even tho its not for the 350z

But im still going with, that its not going to fit on the 350z.
if you look at how deep the switch is in your photo left side, its still to deep to be mounted on the right side even with your modification on the back of the switch, as i said in my post under interior/exterior section the 350z IGN. key switch is like right behind the wipe control on the column shaft

here is a picture from your DIY of that im talking about. The in red square is were you have the paddle switch located, the yellow circle is approxemently were the key switch is on the right side

aloh, the response time is exactly the same as the shifter handle... technically it's probably a few ms quicker because there is less travel time of the activation itself compared to the shifter, but realisticly it's the same.

james, do you have any pictures of your ign switch location? if anyone could get some good close up shots it would maybe help, if anyone was willing to drop there cover it might help even more....

woh, that does look tight... nothing is impossible though, worse case might be that the right paddle needs to be modified... it's just a mechanical lever with a micro switch, so with enough effort I'm sure it could still be done.

oleg has expressed interest in exploring this possibility with his Z, I will try to get with him next week & see what could be done. the ign switch does look like an obstacle, but not necessarily something that couldn't be worked around, I'm sure there is a way, just depends what would be involved.... well see

^ your right, nothing is impossible.
Just have to rebuilding the switch unit to make it smaller. Makes it pretty much harder to todo then most everyone is thinking. But ill let you work on it. Im going with my design, i just have to finish the switch housing. I got my levels and switch unit built and didnt cost me much of anything but time.

OK, guys, whoever was keeping their eye on this, here is an update. The left one fits with no problems. The right hand one cannot clear the ignition switch without additional modifications to the shifter.
Hopefully John will chyme in with additional info.
I will most likely go through with this, so stay tuned for more info and pics.

Hm well what i relaly like about this kit is that it uses the OEM paddles from the G35's.

I hope John finds a solution to it.
