remote desktop will work fine (i've set this up on several computers), but you need something that will tunnel one internet connection into the other.
I recommend using a free program called Hamachi, it sets up a VPN (virtual private network) amongst any number of computers anywhere on the globe. It basically makes the computers as if they are networked behind the same router.
Once you setup Hamachi (which is basically config-free), then set the host computer to allow incoming remote desktop connections, this is in the "remote" tab under "System" in control panel.
Then make a note of the COMPUTER NAME on the network. you might want to set it to something easy to remember.
Then you need to make a PASSWORD for the account on the host computer otherwise remote desktop may not work.
Finally, log all the computers into the same VPN on Hamachi, and load up remote desktop, then when you connect, just type in the COMPUTER NAME into the remote desktop connection
I do this and it works alright, but if the internet connections are slow, then it will be painful to use.
