My one recommendation is to buy high-ticket electronics at a smaller retailer, like Tweeter. It may cost a little more at the time of purchase, but the after purchase customer service is worth the price. It's like the difference between buying a used Lexus at a Toyota dealer or buying it at a Lexus dealer. The cars may be the same and the Toyota dealer may charge you a little less, but there's just something nice about drinking a cappuccino and kicking back in a leather chair while waiting for your warranty work to be performed.
As for the TV itself... go 1080P. All of the new technologies coming out are going to require a 1080P to take full advantage.
