The Best OBD II Scanner?
Hi,
Can anybody tell me what the best OBD scanner to get? I am not looking to spend a lot of cash but would like to hook it up to my PC to see how the cars is running (graphs etc...). This can be used to mock Dyno the car as well?
Just installed my Borla exhaust system and there might be a leak (I will check it) but a scanner would help just in case this is not the problem. The Engine Service Light is on. Dammit!!
Thanks

Thanks, I ended up getting the Auterra (http://www.auterraweb.com) from Ebay. It was not too expensive and I am sure that it will do the job for sure. Going to try it out tomorrow.
I guess the ODBI port is under steering wheel right? Is there are cover you have to remove?

If you want a code reader get cheapest **** you can find on ebay because essentially all you need is the code to begin diagnosis. Who cares if cheap Korean junk brakes after a year if it cost you 20 bucks.
If you want to be able to monitor the data and perform Consult II type operations such as resetting procedures there is truly nothing else you can use besides Consult II or III (does not work on anything up to 07 anyway).
Snap-on scanners have very limited functions comparing to Consult II...snap on is simply inferior to it btw i am referring to latest one "Solus". There are few other expensive scan tools on the market but they have very limited functions.
What i'd recommend is getting one of those consult ii KnockOffs on ebay. If i remember correctly its jsut a cable to hook up to your laptop and CD software that SUPPOSEDLY has identical functions as true Consult ....but who knows i never had the chance to use it. Plus i got Consult II at work

Yeah that is what I figured as well. I really dont want to mess around with the ECU anyways. They pay the engineers some good money to design them. Some guys like to play but not the best idea I think.
I basically just need to get the codes and the one I bought was pretty good. It does the job. Have you heard of one called the cipher at http://www.uprev.com/.

I was searching on bing about the best obd2 scanner and found this old thread. Although, I read this type site review article too. Actually, those type sites are popping up top of the search engine but not enough analytic data or personal experience of use. Most of the content are generic and I don't like much. So, I want to ask this forum member that any idea about Autel AL619 AutoLink obd2 scanner? It price only $95 thus, I am thinking to buy it.

I have several Autel scanners and can attest that they make good gear. In the early days, the software was a bit glitchy, but they've stayed with it as a company and their products are fairly solid in terms of reliable performance now. If it were me, I'd just spend the extra cash and get the since it does a lot more than the 619. I've had the MD802 for about 5 years and it's been a great performer. I also have the Autel AL539 for electrical system diagnosis and the Autel MaxiTPMS TS501 for the tire sensors. I've been thinking about getting an Autel Maxisys since my car computer's getting a bit old.
So yeah, I'm pretty happy to recommend Autel products.

1. OBD port interface ($22):
2. Torque Pro ($5 version):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...l.torque&hl=en
- Cheap
- Links to information on each code
- Best GUI than any expensive diagnostic tool.
