Default Air Conditioning intermittent problem

2004 mt ~ 40,000 miles.

Lately, mostly when the -Z- is hot from sitting in the sun, my air conditioner will not blow cool air when I first turn it on. This did not happen before.

After I drive for a short while, it will kick on.

It is an intermittent problem, however, it seems to be getting worse.

Have you had this problem? What might be causing it?

Thanks,

JCat

I have never been in any type of car, that has sat in the sun for a while immediately blow cool air when first turned on. It would normally take me maybe a minute to start cooling down.

I understand what you are saying. I have owned this car for 4 years and I assure you that there is a problem, the air conditioner will not work for a long, long time.

Sometimes it will shut down and stay off (no cool air) totally for 15 minutes while I'm driving.

are you saying the compressor is not working or an electrical issue...? maybe its time for a recharge/service of the a/c?

i have to wait about a minute or two after start-up before i get cold air coming out of my vents...

I'm having a similar problem, my air conditioner will cut out intermittently, ex. I was on the way to dinner last night with the A/C on and all the sudden the air got really hot, hotter than the outside ambient air. It happened this morning as well on the way to work. The A/C will work again on and off, but never for very long.

I have an 04.5 ~ 32k on the dial.

I had this problem today with my 04 with 35K. I hope there is an easy fix. When I turn my car on, it cools down really fast and the air is ice cold. But sometimes when im driving, it will stop blowing out of the vents. I play around with the fan speed **** and the **** you adjust to choose where to air should come out of and it usually fixes it. Could it be a bad connection someplace?

Mine is intermittent and seems to occur when hot and very VERY humid. A/C always kicks on when selected, then after a variable time it kicks off, air feels humid and ambient to slightly warmer. Note: a/c light stays on. One thing I've noticed is that if I have the temp set at 75 and it kicks off, it comes back on faster (sometimes immediately) if I raise the temp to 80. Of course, 80 w/out humidity is far better.

Anyhow, I figure something in the system is overloaded by dehumidifying gross amounts of Charleston SC air. I'm hoping one of the guys here have dealt with this and can share the fix. BTW, if the anwser is leave Charleston I think it's worth it....

Default Intermittent AC

Anymore info on this problem? Does anyone know the cost of an AC Amp assembly?

Default Air Conditioning intermittent problem

The air conditioning blows cold air when the car is idle. After driving for about 10 minutes it starts to blow warm air. If you stop and wait and wait for 10 minutes it will start to blow air cold air again. In the winter you will be able to use the air conditioner to defog the car without any problems it blows cold air to keep the car defogged.

Update -

I have been dealing with this problem since 6/2008. About 8 months ago, I took the -Z- to the Nissan dealer. They said it was a bad sensor that was located in the blower box and that it would cost me $600 for them to tear the dash apart and replace it.

I didn't believe them.

The A/C only blew cold air when the car was moving.

I finally figured it out . . . . one of the two radiator fans was not working. AND it turns out that this is a common problem, so much so, that Nissan warrants the fans for 86 months.

No my car did not run hot. The temperature gage indicated everything was fine.

Now that the problem is fixed, I cannot say I feel stupid for not diagnosing it earlier.....because the Nissan folks didn't either.

You might occasionally check and see if both your radiator fans are working.....before the Nissan extended warranty expires.

I'm a cool cat now.

Team Nissan in Lithia Springs.

When the Service Manager and Tech told me it was a sensor in the blower box, I futilely searched for it in the Service Manual, with no success. I can just imagine what other disasters would have happened if I had let them take my whole dash apart.

What's an "AC amp"?

If the AC blows cold air intermittently, it can't be the compressor or the sealed system. When those fail, they don't mysteriously recover.

It's something in the electrical system related to the compressor clutch, the door in the heater box, or the radiator fans.

When my radiator fan failed, the refrigerant flowing thru the air conditioner condensor was not getting cooled (enough).....therefore the air in my passenger compartment was not getting cooled. . . .

Pic of condensor (it sits in front of the radiator) :
