Could you guys tell the difference between matte black or satin black if one or the other were painted on a car and someone asked you to identify? Ive looked at pics and I feel like they are the same. Is matte black more greyish? and Satin black is just black? Don't know if I want satin black or matte black for my headlights.

Matte vs. Satin (vs. Glossy) is all about shine, not color. Up close, sure you can tell the diff. 10, 25, 50 ft away, probably not.

The name of the color is not helpful. Assume matt and satin are from the same company, satin will have more shine. Just an assumption.

You can CLEARLY see the difference between satin and matte black. They look quite dissimilar.

The more you move from left to right, the more glossy, but terms will differ between paint brands. People tend to interchange satin and matte because they're right in the middle of that spectrum.

Flat has no shine (in theory), matte has very little. Satin has less than glossy. It's all relative.

For debating purposes I would say:

Flat = egg shell dullness, fighter jet finish.
Matte= plastic finish on keyboards etc. or automotive trim.
Satin = a tad more reflective than matte, anodized metal, or coated handgun finish.
Gloss = glass look, oem paint.

Does anyone have pics of the entire headlights painted matte black? All the pics ive seen left the lens housing unpainted. Also, if there are any pics of headlights painted other than black, for example, maybe all white or black and white. Thanks.

I have tried looking for matte black spray paint by krylon, but they only have satin black. Ive tried home depot, sears, and lowes, and no matte black. Where can I get it?

If I don't end up getting krylon fusion for plastics, is a contact adhesive pray necessary for other types of paint?

I found many flat, matte, and satin black Rust-Oleum spray paint at Amazon. I used it upon making my own guitars. It worked great for me

Hey, thank you very much. I am dressing up my car and I am doing black on black on my car, so I've been doing some research and got messed up with the flat, matte, satin and gloss look. So you really helped me a lot cause I haven't found any clear explanation about the different blacks, so really, for real, thanks a lot fam! I bet there are a lot of people still confused with these colors.
