For those who have CAI with the filter head sitting behind the front bumper grill, may I ask what steps you have taken to prevent water flow into the engine?

I have an Injen Hydra Shield. Recently I drove through some heavy rains and the shield was completely wet. I'm not really sure how well it works, but thought I'd be safe and stopped driving in the rain until the storm settled.

Anyone experience problems (or heard of problems) with the Hydra shield? Do you think it would be worthwhile to make a plastic cover behind the grill to block water from hitting the filter head??

Some type of evidence would be nice with that statement. I bought the hydroshield because of the following. I thought this was evidence to why it works:

Unfortunately, I couldn't get the AEM by-pass valve installed with current Injen CAI setup. (unless I modify the lower tube a bit) So instead i went with the hydroshield.

I am still a bit skeptical though, which is why I'm asking if anyone has experienced problems with the hydroshield. I'm searching for examples on google but haven't found anything yet.

Oh and in case someone wants to suggest searching the archives, "hydro shield" or "hydro shield" or "water bypass" only results in a handfull of posts. Of which more than half are from WTB of people searching for these products.

this has been discussed alot recently and i had the same ?'s as you but i kinda did my own research and found out that unless u drive through a puddle of water and the filter is submerged in water you wont hurt anything, it takes more than a couple of drops of rain to hydrolock a motor.

I got a couple of hydro sheilds too - more of a "just in case thing " but mine is not a daily driver and lives in the garage most of the rainy season. . .

You might stick the hydro sheild on something like a tp roll and shoot it with the hose - see how well it works - if it stays dry I wouldnt worry too much. . . . if it soaks through then you know

i relocated my plate infront of my filter.. days i go racing or highway runs, i take it off.

Well, I have the dual Injen CAI on mine, and have driven through some major down pours, and on the track without the shield. No issues. You won't have issues at all unless you submerge the filter with or without the shield.

How about a intake with the filter inside the engine bay. No need to create a potential problem then search for a solution.

ive driven in hard rain with the injen intake and no shield and not one prolem ever

i have had the hydroshield on mine for almost 3 years now and have never had a problem with water and I have driven through some ridiculous rain. I can recall once I drove through Alabama and couldn't see 10 feet in front of me on the interstate and still didn't have any problems. You will definitely have a problem though if you submerge the filter in deep water so I have read.

CAI vs WAI was not the question at hand.

Just because it snows doesnt prevent people from driving a rear wheel drive sports car. Just because it rains doesnt prevent people from using cai. Both can be dangerous, but both are possible, as you can well see by the replies seen here.

^correct, filter in the engine bay is generally referred to as warm air intake (wai).

Like Steven350, I installed my plate in front of the filter. In Houston, when it rains it pours alot. Had it installed since December and no problems.
