Default Brembo calipers, why so expensive???

Is it because of their name is on the piece of **** cast iron??

I dont wanna start a war or anything. I just wanna see what you guys think, and see if you can give me a REAL advantage or reason why brembo charges so much.

A week ago I had to replace a front caliper on a 08 or 09 toyota sequoia. It was a huge 4 piston caliper. Ive seen a 350z brembo caliper and the toyota one is basically the SAME EXACT size and weight. I'm not saying these will be a substitute because they probably wont bolt up. But used 350z brembos go for approx $1k + for a pair or all 4 whatever!!! The one toyota caliper which is a rebuild was $120 at a local parts store.

You cant say the brembos are made for hard braking and strength. Because the V8 sequoia has a curb weight of 6k. If it could stop that tank it can stop a 3300lb car at any speed......

I just think its rediculous that a company can charge 10 times for the same **** because their name is on it. But thats life i guess...

Here are pictures of the toyota and 350z brembo calipers. They are just pics and no the toyotas are not smaller. you can go to a parts store and see for your self. LOLOL they are basically identicle. The silver ones are toyotas.

I can't think of a worse comparison.

^^LMAO

As a side note, I do not like the fact that used Brembos cost almost as much as new Akebonos, but that's just me it would seem.

The brembo caliper and rotor combo are designed for repeated stops without brake fade. The toyota sequoia brakes are big because they are designed to stop 5680lbs of metal. Apples and oranges really.

Brembo vs. Akebono vs. OEM floating caliper

Volk vs. Enkei vs. Rota

Electrolux vs. Kenmore vs. Westinghouse

Pick your poison

^ OEM 350z Brembo > Akebonos.

OP, so you think all of these car manufactures are wrong when they chose Brembo:

Abarth, Alfa, Romeo, AMG, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Citroën, Corvette, Dodge, Ferrari, FIAT, Fisker, Ford, FPV, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, Jeep, Lamborghini, Lancia, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Lotus, Maserati, Maybach, Mazda, Mercedes, Mercury, Mini, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Opel, Pagani, Peugeot, Pontiac, Porsche, Renault, Saab, Subaru, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo.

and they should just install the "V8 sequoia" brakes instead "Because the V8 sequoia has a curb weight of 6k. If it could stop that tank it can stop a 3300lb car at any speed......"

Not sure if serious, but can't see the point of this thread.

They are two different items and the Brembos can be found very cheap on the used market.
