Smile OG 2003 350z engine rebuild: Please advise

Hey Guys,

My baby got hurt. I am working with Project Import in Orange, California. The guys told me there was metal in the engine oil when they drained it and that I would have to either replace the engine or get it rebuilt. I would like to get some of your opinions on what they have suggested so far. I had the option to replace the engine with a salvaged one for around 3k but we can only find engines with 100k plus in milage. I only have around 55k miles on my motor and have always wanted to rebuild the engine and keep it NA. Trying to go for mods that will offer the most bang for buck. Really appreciate any advice you guys can give me in terms of mods to do and which manufacturers parts to go with. Unfortunately, I have a lot to read and learn as I do not know much about engines and rebuilds. I am going to spend the weekend reading through some threads so I can get a better grip on my situation. I have been quoted $9,000 so far and do not want to spend much more than this. No intention to go F1 in future. Thought I would get started getting some opinions, spend time learning, and then finalize and get started with the build. I've been out of the game for a while now and am excited about this, thanks ahead for any advice

Hey Igear, I'm not sure. They simple stated that they found metal in my oil and that this means that my engine is toast. Do you think I should get a second opinion on the car first? Or take the car to a nissan dealership and have them inspect it? In the past I've noticed the nissan dealership has lied and tired to get me to fix things that didn't need fixing so I really do not know who to trust. The car had a sound coming from the flywheel/clutch, shut down on the road and wouldn't start up again, and I had it flatbeded to the shop. The shop said that the engine did start again. I told them that I had been using the car for 3 days on low oil, and they replied that the engine was gone.

I would highly recommend getting a second opinion, especially since there were no warning signs you mentioned. If it is going to cost you 9 grand, a second opinion is well worth your while.

Default Engine is dead

Took it to Nisan, engine is dead

Dealership
New Engine: $12,000
Used Engine (80,000 miles): $8,000

Ended up finding an engine with 40,000 miles for $2k

Mods: DC Headers, Motordyne ART test pipes, 4.08 final drive, Quaife Diff, Used Engine Install. All for around $5,500

Still sounds high to me. Be patient. There are bone stock de's
For $800 in good shape if you're patient. Watch eBay and cl all around your market.

Default She's back

Oh man! The Quaife and 4.08 Gears are so awesome!. I ended up getting a new ACT clutch as well. Car drives better than ever, and has dramatically improved in acceleration. I am going to get the ART pipes installed and get the UPREV tune and finally get the dyno done. I will let you guys know where I am at afterwards. Thanks for the info guys

How much did you end up spending on everything? which route did you go..new motor or just rebuild? it sounds like rebuild but the space in dates makes it a little hard to interpret.

Hey

I ended up skipping the rebuild. Just got a used engine with UR Headers, MD ART Pipes, Quife + 4.08, and Uprev. People were so right about tuning, by far the best thing to do once you're done with all the bolt-ons. The ART pipes with the FI exhaust sound sooooo damn beautiful. Thanks for all the input guys

Around 8-12k for everything I've done with the car. Had a lot of fun along the way and thoroughly enjoyed the NA route!
