Sony WX-7700MDX headunit
Hi,
I am very interested in getting this headunit installed in my car but have a few questions...mostly I want to know what it looks like up close. I know some peole here (Toronto350Z) have it installed, so...here we go:
The japanese website says CD-TEXT in Englsh, MD text in English and Japanese. My main concern is the Japanese...do any Americans have one installed? Could you take some photos (MACRO) of how the display looks? I am interested in the details of it, and I just want to make sure it is all English. Does it display ID3 Tags? In English or Japanese?
It would be sad if I got it installed and all the buttons, etc. were in Japanese or really **** poor English. It looks so cool, but poor grammar and/or Japanese can't be excused.

Thanks in adavnce for any help, I would really appreciate the time of anyone who takes a macro or two of the display in various modes!!!

Can you tell me about cost of installation? And what is that material around the HU, foam? or some sort of plastic...? thanks :-)
also..what about the original Blose system? did you remove that, or what? does the Sony make the Blose speakers sound any better, or did you get rid of those as well?
You're a friggin' cool dude for answering all my nitpicky questions, but it is an expensive head unit...would like to know before purchase

Damned BricksZ and TorontoZ... that is the best looking system I have ever seen...
If I didn't order from the melting-pot and went with pricejapan, how much would an FM modulator cost me? you said it is attached externally... where would that be? I didn't see one in your pics and I assume you got one free when you ordered from the melting-pot.
Having that system would definitely make me paranoid about people breaking in to my car for it though... nonetheless, I'm still green with envy...

Here's the answer.
I emailed the Melting Pot and they replied that they sell the FM converter for $49.00 and $8.00 postage.
I found another site that sells it for $27 and $5 shipping. It was an outfit out of Australia I believe, and I couldn't tell if they shipped them within Australia for $5 or if they had distribution here.
I go to Japan almost every month and thought I'd see if I can pick one up there.
There is a problem. The Japan FM frequency is only 16 wide -76mhz to 90mhz. Here in the US our frequency is wider - 88mhz - 108mhz, so if you like stations on 89.1 and 107.5 you can't get both. You can only get 16mhz spread. For most of us that is no problem. I am checking to see if you could get the converter for 92 to 108 and then have a switcher turn it off so I can get the couple stations below that.
By the way, I bought the WX-7700MDX for 59,000 yen (about $510) in Akihabara Japan. They even through in an wire harness adapter so all I had to do was plug it in to the Nissan plugs. Wow, was that nice!!

Any double din unit you install will have a 1/4-1/2 inch gap around it. Since double din stereo's are so popular in Japan, Nissan sells a frame that fits the car and double dins very nicely. I think it costs about $10.
I'm going to get one later this month. However, I am also having a custom frame made out of smoked acrylic that matches the contour of the Z panel and fits the 7700 HU. It has been computer engineered and will be machined on a CNC (numeric controlled) system.
I intend to put indirect lighting in the background with a switch to turn it off and on. I hope the finished look will blend in well with the existing interior. If not, I'll just go with Nissan's frame.

whiz thanks for the info... where would I get the double-din nissan frame? I assume that simply calling my dealer wouldn't work... would appreciate the info.
yeah, akihabara is a cool place... like one big best buy the size of a city... it took me about two full days to cover a few blocks of stores... don't suppose you'd wanna pick me up a WX-7700 when you go back?
