Default . . .

any dvd/nav/ipod units out there that fit in the dash cubby that would not have to be a custom install instead of the factory nav unit. . .want mine to be hidden, not DD like most peoples. . .wouldn't mind hooking my 360 to it or a pc as well. . .

most pioneer HU's have an ipod connection in the back. I have mine running into the cubby and keep my ipod in there and control it through the HU.

wait a second, thats not what you were asking at all. I'm pretty much half asleep at work today.

That clarion HU looks like a nice piece. I was thinking about going with the new kenwood. But this is half the price.

Are you able to watch movies on your HU through your Ipod? And how good is the bluetooth with the mic built in like that?

The MAX685BT allows you to watch movies through the iPod with the appropriate adapter cable, which is about $60 now. Here's the catch though, you need a 5th generation or below iPod with video capabilities. The reason being that, even though the MAX685BT is brand new, Apple doesn't have a cut in it. You can get a video cable from Apple, but you have to have a seperate one for music. So basically it would require you to swith cables whenever you want to toggle between music or video. If you have a 5th generation or below, then it will give you a video option like it does in the iPod menu. My installer has the same HU and that's what he told me. I went to the Apple store in my town and they basically said the same thing and it was due to using an aftermaket cable. The good news is you can get a lower generation iPod really cheap now and have one just for your car. That's what I did.

As far as the Bluetooth HU microphone, I think it works fine. I have made calls with a friend in the car and it sounds better than if you were talking on a handset speaker phone. The conversation is clear to the caller and recipient. You can hear road noise and acceleration, especially if you have an aftermarket exhaust. I have a Tanabe Hyper Medallion, and I have been told it's pretty loud when accelerating from a stopped position. My installer was telling me that a guy who has this HU in an Audi TT has the microphone kit and it's a big improvement. I'm strongly considering it and may have it done with my next audio install.

Yeah I thought it was strange that there was no microphone that you had to mount near your head. Ive seen most people mount it in the driver side pillar. Thanks for the info.

No alternator change, but I did put an extra battery in the Z. I still need to add a capacitor though.

Bass is generally considered to be non directional since humans can't really discern sounds below I think 100 hz (or is it 80? - been awhile since I took physics lol). This is due to the length of the soundwaves. That being said, sub location is very important, since music really doesn't have a constant singular bass note to it. Bass stops and starts at does so at a variety of frequencies and volumes. For that reason, playing with box dimensions, soundwave reflection (ie the angle at which you mount the sub, and the design of that speaker itself), system volume, and cross over points (among other things I am sure) will all play a role in overall bass response and localization.

They're actually tangbang 6.5" woofers. Went with them after I heard them installed in a friends lexus is. They sound GREAT for what they area. I plan on trying to switching to a 12" possibly.
