I think the work involved would not be worth it. I have never seen that done that high on the console. Wouldn't that be somewhat out of the way? and what is in the location of the radio now? My Navi barely fit in there and I looked for a really small thin one.

You can mount the brain of the head unit in the briefcase compartment, and mount the screen in the cubby. This will eliminate the need for cutting/fabbing.
Not impossible but there's only about 2" worth of junk behind the cubby's plastic and that's full of the brace for the top of the dash and lots of other stuff. To get the 7-9" you're going to need you'll end up cutting into parts and fabricating supports for many hours.

Yes, you are correct… And then when you consider the fact that the Kenwood KOS-L702 7” LCD screen is a simple “drop-in” for the 2003 model, and requires only minor fabrication for any year Z, you would be foolish to do anything else.
If you go with this setup (Kenwood KOS-L702 7” LCD screen and a KOS Controller), you run can operate an entire CES (GPS, DVD player, radio, etc.) directly from this screen using Kenwood’s great touch-screen function, or using Kenwood’s handheld remote control for KOS.
It’s a “natural fit” for the Z. The KOS 7" LCD fits the upper/forward cubby, and there are mutiple cubbies behind the driver and passenger seat to fit a varietyof devices.
