Default Please help! Battery Died from car audio?

Hey guys,

Just wondering why my battery died. Everything was working fine until I adjusted the gains yesterday. When I woke up for work, the car was completely dead. I attached a jump cable from my other car, and the car would still not start (but electronics turn on). I took my battery to Sear's and they said that the battery was good and holds a charge.

What's going on? Bad ground or something?

Thanks a lot guys,
J

Could it be because of the alternator?

This happened to me a few days ago, i had a ground left ungrounded. Check your harness for the headunit, the amp for the system if you have it, just recheck what you've done so far to your audio system, i would bet there's a ground left open.

I could be as simple as your battery cable(s) not being connected solidly. It's unlikely that the alternator is causing the problem.

Did the car start after you reinstalled the battery?

What does the car do when you turn the key to "Start"?

Do you hear the engine crank, do you just hear a clicking noise, do you hear nothing?

It could be anything until we know the answer to this to help narrow down possible causes.

Sounds like you left an amplifier burning power. I had a cap with a fancy LED display and light show that would slowly drain my battery across two or three days of not driving it. Your power loss sounds much faster than a small load like that. The car's brain will actually shut off the headlights and even the dome lights so it's likely something like the headend or amplifier.

Good luck and let us know when you find the power drain.
