backup camera, new option...
Found this backup camera that replaces one of the license plate lights...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280533066614
It should fit right in place. I compared the mounting of the stock light, and it is identical. I just bought one, and once I get it I will follow up with installed pics. It supposedly has line overlays built into the camera as well.
--Update 9-6-2010--
Here is the camera mounted, yo can use it on either side, both lights are the same. mounting it on the drivers side puts the camera closest to the center of the car.
Light output is still good from the license plate lights!
Day video quality, the line markers appear to be in meters
Night image, it shows up really noisy in this picture, but in person it is not as bad as it looks, very usable image a night too. The bright spots are from the reverse lights lighting up the ground, which does help the image too.

I have a Magellan 1700 mounted in an 06+ nav cubby. The Magellan will automatically switch to the backup camera when it senses a video signal. All I need to do is wire the camera to power on when the backup lights turn on, and it should work. That's the plan at least!

Basically, I had a customer come in with something similar, didnt have a name or number on it so he could get the nav sd card it was missing and he bought it when he was overseas. Quality wasnt really that great either.
camera looks cool though, interested in an update myself.

if you are talking about the double-din nav radios for 460ish Id stay away from those. For that price you would be better off getting a used or older name brand nav that you at least have a chance getting support for it you need. That thing doesnt even have a brand name on it.

I don't really need anything super uber, just something with a screen guess I can always go with pioneer

damn i really want this now to replace my keyhole backup camera that i have installed on my lic. plate right now.
i was stupid to have bought the one with the ir lights. if its in the daytime then i can see fine but at night time, the glare from the lights are reflected inside the lens so all i see is glare.
please post review once you get it

If you dont care about nav there is Pioneer screen for 450ish. And if you trust your judgement you could score an older f700bt or f900bt off ebay for under 200 and just hack it so that it runs newer software.

I'm wondering if the angle of the camera is going to be correct. I found a few pics of the Livina rear, including one with the license plates illuminated, and the lights face downwards, just like on the Z. But why is the camera angled at ~45-degrees, rather than a 90-degrees? Maybe it's just the angle that the eBay pic shows? Anyway, for $35 it's worth a shot. I just ordered one, too. The Z lights are much higher up than on the Livina, so maybe that will help.
